This Jagged point is no more rupged than near-by peeks along the Sawtooth section of the Great Smokies. Its extreme ruggedness, however, was exposed to view when that spot was swept by fire in 1925. The 24-page “Best Loved Scenes in the Smokies” was published in 1955 as a guidebook describing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Each page has several black and white photographs of notable sites that are titled and described. The booklet is both a guidebook and a promotional piece for the “Thompsons,” referring to Knoxville photographers Jim and Robin Thompson. A page at the back of the book indicates that prints are available for sale. James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976) and brother, Robin Thompson (1895-1977) were both photographers. In the 1920s they were partners in Thompson Brothers Commercial Photography, a firm started by their father in 1902. In 1927, the brothers went their separate ways, each taking on various photographic interests.
