  • 1AP NO. CT-7 PALMER CEMETERY LOCATION: (Our Records - Maintenance & Rehabilitation Study) - 650 feet off Cataloochee Road in vicinity of Cataloochee Ranger Station. Cemetery is on very steep ground and has been kept in good condition considering its location. (.Book on Cemetery Inventory) - 1/4 mile west of ranger station. (Trout's Records) - On hill behind the Cataloochee Ranger Station. NO. OF GRAVES: 28 LAST BURIAL: (Our Records) - 1943-1944; (Trout's Records) - About 1944 DESCRIPTION: (Our Records) - On Park Tract No. 224 conveyed to State of North Carolina by deed of Jarvis Palmer recorded 19 November 1930, in Book 81, page 161. Fenced and maintained by relatives and National Park Service. No mention of cemetery in deeds. Cemetery is on Park inventory, Decorated. (Calhoun's Records) - South District (Haywood); Deed No. 11; File No. Vol. 8; Q4. Not listed in Notice of Assumption of Jurisdiction. (Trout's Records) - Structure No. C124. Size: approximately 100' X 130'. Cemetery is enclosed by a woven wire fence in poor condition. Cemetery is in fair condition but needs raking, mowing, seeding and fertilizing. Several graves need leveling and a number of markers need stabilizing. Path from area of Cataloochee Ranger Station to cemetery is in fair condition, but needs brushing and clearing in places. No evidence of recent visitation. Present condition as of May, 1976: fair. UTM Reference: (A) Zone: 17; Easting: 311460; Northing: 3945900.
