That ivory blanket of ice that-covers the mountain sides for endless ways to have fun. Make way soon for the skiers and tube-rid- . ers, because once the powder is on the ground, there they come sliding down the slopes. Sapphire Valley Ski, Resort in Southern : Jackson County is known for their winter at- mosphere. The intermediate slope and: learner slope is accessed by a snow lift. We attract a lot of novice skiers and guests anxious to learn how to ski due to our excellent instructional programs, our uncom- plicated surroundings, excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, all day lift tickets, economical pricing, family friendly orientation, and Guistantite group rates and , Setvice to groups, said Steve Martell, an em- ' ployee at Sapphire Valley Ski Resort. Sapphire Valley Ski Resort is a four sea- son resort, therefore, we have tennis, golf, boating, a recreation center with workout room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, saunas, and hot tubs, putt-putt golf, game room, and gem mining, Martell said. Dur- ing the winter the focus is mainly on the recre- ation center and ski area, which also has snow tubing. Skiing 1 is only the tick inning for this resort. Bring 10 of your friends to join in the fun and you can get a discount on the overall price. Sapphire Valley Ski Resort stays open from. when the snow first falls in the winter through February. Tf youre not much ofa skier, but enjoy the snow, then Moonshine Mountain Park near Balsam might be for you. Tubing and mining are the main spotlights for this winter park, Moonshine Mountain is the: only tubing park that allows tube trains. Each ticket is $25 and is good for two hours on the slopes. For parties of 20 people or more there is a discount. The fee to go digging for gems ts $8 per person. The hours in the park vary, but the earliest the park starts is at 10 a.m. and the latest the park closes is at 10 p.m. Another popular ski resort nearby is the Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley. The resort offers a variety of pricing packages by the hour, day, weekend or season. Intermediat skiers and snowboarders find plenty of action on Rock Island Run and Low- er Omigosh, while seasoned experts can face - the steepness found on Upper Omigosh. For skiers and snowboarders looking for a thrill, the resort offers Cat Cage Terrain Park which has ramps, rails and boxes.
