LP: Wow, | thought about that several times. How could | lose more in one year than | did in all of high school? Last season was not fun, but we have grown so much as a team from that. We were always close, but could never finish a game. This year is so different. As far as the losing went last year, | didnt know how to deal with it at first, because it was such a shock. I'll never be ok with losing, but last year it was getting | really old. WC: This season could see you playing against a former high school teammate (Rashanda McCants, UNC) and a former opponent (Alex Thompson, Davidson), how do u feel about playing these opponents? LP: | already played a former AAU teammate in Corinne Groves (Wake | Forest) and it was a little weird. We havent seen each other in a while _ and it was nice getting to see her. | do look forward to the Carolina game and Im excited about playing Rashanda. She had a good freshman year too. Alex knows the game well and can shoot too. Playing against her will be no different than high school, except that | know her. OSS ss ss gene WC: Staying on the subject of former teammates, you could be playing against your own sister next season, how is it going to be different playing against her for possibly the 1* time in your basketball career? = LP: Yeah, it is going to be really strange playing against her. | guess my dad will have to wear purple and gold and my mom maroon and white. My sister knows my game probably better than anyone, so those games against Charleston will be very interesting. siginenecnscasnecnnanannsccsnonanocasacsnnancancnascanccnscnannanannanaatatities Le WC: Everyone knows that you are a 3-point shooting juggernaut, what did u do in the off-season to improve your all-around game? LP: | have been improving other parts of my game because | want to _ be better than just a shooter. | took a speed camp over the summer so | could be quicker on defense and more explosive off the dribble on | offense. | have seen the results already for that. Im more aggressive _ on the boards than | was last year as well. I've worked on taking it to | the basket more, which | did ok last year, but even better this year. If | keep improving on other aspects of my game, its just going to make me | harder to guard. WC: After winning the SoCon Freshman of the Year award last season, what are your goals for your sophomore campaign? LP: My goals are simple. Win the conference and the conference tournament so we can make it to the NCAA tournament. If | happen to get all-conference, that would be nice, but those first two have to happen for the all conference to mean anything. With our team this year, | definitely think we have a shot. Carolinian Despite scoring 6 points in the Lady Catamounts season- opening loss against the Auburn Tigers on November 10", Lauren came back to contribute 17 points in a shocking 74-71 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Best of luck to the Lady Catamount Basketball team on the rest of the season. Go Cats! Photo by Mark Haskett
