  • 2 Off-campus food: So much better than the food on campus Ryan Sarda WCnewsmagazine Some say that the food on campus is too greasy, too unhealthy, too expensive, and just plain awful. Thats why the elegant city oi Sylva offers some fine off-campus dining for students to enjoy. From Nick and Nates to OMalleys, off-campus food rocks compared to the food offered at WCU. Bella Roma Pizzeria is located on Skyland Drive in Sylva. It offers both a Greek and an Italian cuisine for people to indulge. At first impression, Bella Roma might look like a dump because the old building looks like its getting ready to fall apart. Lets face it; a restaurant that has bars on its windows could turn anyone off at first glance. However, once you walk inside Bella Roma and eat the food, it will be a nice, delicious, and filling meal that will definitely make you want to come back. The different selections on the menu at Bella Roma give students healthier alternatives with the Greek Pitas and the various salads that they offer On Tuesday nights, the restaurant offers chicken wings for an extremely low price of 25 cents per wing. You cannot beat a deal like that. The food at Bella Roma is affordable; it's not the cheapest meal you'll ever get, but it is also not the most expensive. Another off-campus restaurant that students enjoy is located in downtown Sylva. Nick and Nates offers a variety of different types of food. Ranging from pizzas, pastas, salads, chicken tenders, Philly Clubs, there is something on the menu for everyone. Nick and Nates can be very crowded sometimes. When this happens, the service tends to be a little slow. However, the meal is well worth the wait and the pay. For those of you over 21, Nick and Nates has some delicious and soothing hand-crafted beer which helps take students away from their everyday stresses. O'Malley's is perhaps the most popular restaurant in Sylva. OMalleys is a bar and grill that specializes in a filling American cuisine. On Thursday nights, OMalleys offers chicken wings for a very low price of 29 cents. If you want a delicious meal that will nourish your body and fill your needs then OMalleys is a _ good place to go. Its also a good place to go on Saturdays and Sundays to watch the big college and professional football games. Because the great town of Sylva passed the liquor law, every hour at O Malleys is happy hour, thus causing the service to slow down massively. However, give OMalleys a go at least once and you will not be disappointed. Fast food is also a good way to get full for cheap. Ordering off the dollar menus at Wendys and McDonalds is always a safe alternative when it comes to saving money. Taco Bell is also a good place to go if you want that fourth meal between dinner and breakfast. - So many places off-campus give students more of a variety whenever they want to eat. Unlike some places on campus, when eating off campus the students actually get to choose what they want. Depending on the time of day, Sylva offers exquisite dining facilities that students can enjoy. Waffle House is open 24 hours, Huddle House is decent, along with Bogarts, Quiznos Subs and Sonic. There is also Ryans Steakhouse in the Wal-Mart shopping center, which tends to be a bit pricy, but its all you can eat and its pretty good too. The best thing about eating at places like OMalleys, Nick and Nates and Bella Roma, is the fact the portions are huge. When you pay to eat on campus, you're paying nearly the same price as you would to eat off-campus and the on campus portions are smaller. Eating the big portions off-campus, most likely will give you leftovers that you can enjoy as another meal the following day, which saves you money. So, whenever you are absolutely tired of eating the same old cold Mozzarella Sticks in the UC, or the greasy pizza in Dodson, or some freezer burnt nuggets from Chick-Fil-A, the various off-campus restaurants will help fill you up and save you money at the same time. The off-campus dining beats the on-campus dining any day of the week.
