  • 28 | WCnewsmagazine Lady Catamounts: SoCon Tourney Champs By Zachary Colburn + WCnewsmagazine The Wester Carolina Catamount Soccer team claimed theit first-ever Southern Conference tournament championship by winning all three games in the tournament. In the quarterfinals against the College of Charleston, the Lady Cats needed an extra session to gain the win ina 2-1 overtime win. Trailing at the second half 1-0, the Lady Cats turned up the heat, and the pressure paid off as senior Megan Chambers scored on her fifth shot of the match from 30 yards out to tie the game at one. In the overtime session, sophomore Heather Dittmer received the pass from senior Marie Nicolini and fired a shot from 23 yards out for the game winner and the 2-1 victory that put Catamounts in the Semi-Finals. In their Semi-Final match, the Lady Cats had revenge on their is against the Davidson Wildcats. They earned that revenge in the fashion of a 2-0 victory to secure their spot in the Championship for only the second time in team history. Western gained an early ad vantage at the 36:15 mark.
