  • SGA holds February 10 meeting by Carla Batchelor * WCnewsmagazine Thursday, Feb. 10, the Student Government Asscciation met again in the Catamount Room at 7 p.m. to discuss upcoming events. Relay for Life was again the first order of business. The walk for Relay for Life will be held on April 8, 2005; the student government associations, as well as many other organizations across campus, have been raising money for this good cause. After the brief discussion of Relay for Life, Edward Johnson, the Student Government Association Vice President spoke about the need for student senators. Student senators make many decisions that affect the campus. They vote for implementations in the constitution and address complaints given to the SGA by students and faculty members. The SGA cannot function without the vital senators; members are needed to fill positions on the Student Affairs, Finance, and Academic Affairs committees. The mission stated by Edward is for all the students is to bring a friend or two to their meetings every WCnewsmagazine 9 Thursday at 7 p.m. This semester the SGA executive staff will be participating in the Students Day at the Nations Capital on Feb. 16-18. The trip will be free for all SGA members; this trip will provide all participants with a good learning experience through seminars, meetings and outings all over the nations capital. This outing will be an excused absence for all students who attend this fun-filled three day adventure. Fundraising events are always a part of the SGA calendar. On Feb. 21, there will be a President's Day President's Auction, where campus organizations and clubs will be auctioning off their presidents for the night. The Second Annual Miss WCU Pageant will be held sometime in March or April; a date has not yet been set. All the monies raised will be going to a scholarship endowment fund for a WCU student who is involved in campus activities; the Office of Advancement will provide more details at a later YOU DOWN WITH BTE? The Black Theatre Ensemble is dedicated to sharing date. Construction of campus was another topic of discussion, as many students know the building of the new residence hall has begun. The new building is on schedule, even though it may not look like it. They have had to let the ground dry out a bit due to all the recent rain. The Graham Building renovations are under way, and on April 1, the Reid Gym expansion will begin. The Student Government Association at WCU has an active calendar for the remainder of the semester. No matter how active their calendar may be, volunteers are always needed for committees and events. Without the help of the students, the SGA would not be able to function properly. Students, try to stop by for a meeting; they are held every Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Catamount Room in the UC.
