  • WCnewsmagazine Brandon Randolph is Talkin Politics 1, Ben Brooks Power 90.5, aside from the classic rock lineup, has a variety of interesting segments aired each week. From live broadcasted football games to sections of global news, power 90.5 has plenty of an earful to offer. Of these segments, a very interesting show has been aired now for over a year. The political talk show, entitled Talkin Politics, is a unique program To say the least, Brandon Randolph has done quite a masterful job with Talkin Politics, and the showis something that anyone can listen toand enjoy. Randolph is hard at work to bring us information on issues that shed light into the world of politics. The views expressed on the show are not those of wwcu fm or WCU, and are based on Randolphs as well as guests opinions. To find out more on Talkin 15 hosted by Brandon Randolph. It is an independent show with somewhat of a conservative twist. Randolph, a junior from Burnsville, North Carolina, has volunteered his time to inform listeners of the political issues of the day. Some of these issues can span anywhere from Iraq to gun control, and usually do. Randolph's program is basically a talk show intent on bringing up issues that are mainstream, but not necessarily heavily covered by the media; however, any big issue worth mentioning, he mentions it. Each week, he puts in six to eight hours worth of research into a two hour segment in order to be well versed of the topics to be discussed; most of which are staterelated issues. Although Randolph is a conservative, he wants to keep his show fair and open to every side and give everyone an equal opportunity to express their opinions. The program, as he described, is An upbeat talk show that will inform, entertain and give listeners a chance to be politically active. The show targets an 18-30 year old audience with open lines for anyone to callin and contribute to the discussion. The radio personality has worked with a lot of big names and has even gotten some of them on his show. Some of the big names have consisted of Representative Charles Taylor, who represents North Carolinas eleventh district and will be back on the show this Sunday. Also, Cate Edwards, the daughter of vice presidential candidate John Edwards, was on the show recently and talked about her fathers bid for vice president. VAVCU FM has been working with Randolph to get representatives from the Bush/Cheney campaign, the Kerry/Edwards campaign and Patrick Balantines and Mike Easleys campaigns. Also, he is looking to get both Senatorial candidates, Richard Burr and Erskine Bowles on the air personally so that listeners will have the opportunity to hear both sides and in turn be able to decide who to vote for in the upcoming election. Randolph also hosts a pre-debate show every year on the Sunday before the College Republicans and the College Democrats are to debate. October 17 will be the date that the show is aired. He talked about how this security dilemmais much different than any of the past. In the past he was a part of a global effort to end the threat of global weapons, but despite it all, there are still tensions between _ world powers. His conclusion was to not only work together globally to get along and not use the weapons, but to reduce and get rid of these weapons. Poverty and backwardness were next on the list. While nuciear war and global security are very important issues, the state of the people in the world is also important. He spoke briefly about the UN and their role in fighting poverty. He praised the UN for making resolutions to end poverty, but berated them for not lowing such legislation through. The final category was the conflict between men and nature. Gorbachevis quite Mronmentalist, and even began a non-govemmental environmental group alled Green Cross International. He talked about how population increases over sars have lead to drastic increases in the amount of resources the world S each year. He praised Hans Blix of the UN who dedicated his life to such with his greatest concern being that of war and peace. Again he praises egisiation, but berates those who do not follow through. Overall, Gorbachev is not displeased with the laws and legislation in the world oday. He is very displeased at what he calls poor leadership throughout the fo ~=world that has kept such laws and legislation from being effective
