Have you ever lied about your appearance to someone on the Internet? 10 Students Book Art, Mixed Media in Belk Gallery Feb. 26 - Mar. 19 An exhibition of unique artist-made books and mixed media paintings by Ken Leslie, professor of art and chairman of the Visual Arts Center at Johnson State College in Vermont, will open Thursday, Feb. 26, at Western Carolina University. Ken Leslie: Space + Time will be on exhibit in the gallery of the Belk Building at Western through Friday, March 19. The exhibition will feature a selection of mixed and multi- media artwork, including watercolor, acrylic, drawing, glass, printmaking and photo-collage. Leslie will present a gallery talk at 4 p.m. Feb. 26, followed by an opening reception. Leslie has taught painting and drawing at Johnson State College since 1984. He holds a master of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Pennsylvania and has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including visual artist fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Vermont Arts Council. He specializes in limited edition and one-of-a-kind artist books, ranging in size from 2 inches to larger than 10 feet, created in unique - sometimes circular - formats. Leslie paints and writes on a variety of themes, including humanitys place in the universe, a laymans theory of relativity, and the battle between nature and technology. His exploration of time and space has taken him to several residencies on the Arctic Circle, including Iceland and Alaska. His most recent artist's book, Space + Time, was published by Nexus Press of the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center. After staring at more than 500 years of the history of painting on rectangles, several years ago | escaped to painting circles. Working on everything from large-diameter stretched linen to old 33 1/3 LP records (what else are you going to do with them?), | have used the circular composition to explore issues of time and space, he says.
