  • november 13-19, 2002 cam us news newsmagazine WCnewsmagazine proudly supports The Cat Pa e, TI-EVALLEY In an effort to help the Cats beat Appalachian in the last home football game of the season on Saturday, November 16, Western's student-run fan club, the Cat Pack, is sponsoring "The Rally In The Valley" on Friday, November 15 from 5:30-7:00 P. M. on the UC lawn. The Cat Pack is sponsoring this pep rally to help create awareness for the "Purple Pride Game" and to help the Cats bring home "the Old Mountain Jug. " The idea behind the "Purple Pride Game" is to pack Western's stadium in purple to show school spirit and Catamount pride. The Old Mountain Jug goes to the school that is victorious in the WCU-Appalachian contest. The Cats have not had possession of the jug since 1998. Coach Kent Briggs stated, "l have participated in this game as a player and as an assistant coach and look forward to my first game as a head coach. This is a game that means a great deal to our team, to the WCU student body and to our Alumni. For the team, it is a chance for a winning season, a chance to beat our biggest rival and a chance to bring the Old Mountain Jug back to Cullowhee. " Starting at 5:30 on Friday, there will be pizza, drinks, hot chocolate, apple cider and a live DJ. At 6 P. M. the WCU band will perform along with the WCU cheerleaders and dance team. The football players will take the stage at 6:30 and Coach Briggs will conclude the pep rally with an inspirational speech. The Cat Pack and the WCU athletic department are excited about this upcoming event. Their hope is to not only increase school spirit and excitement for the "Purple Pride Game, " but also to increase awareness about the Cat Pack organization.
