Students are fed up with high prices, poor quality, long lines, lukewarm meals, and bad service. The SGA heeded the cries of students and formed a task force to evaluate the campus food services provided by Aramark. Sophomore Bradley Lovin, an SGA senator, leads the task force. One of the core goals of the task force is to compare the prices that Aramark charges to how much comparative products cost at local grocery stores, such as Ingles. Lovin is in the process of completing this study at the moment, but he delivered a preliminary report to members of the student senate a few weeks ago. He compared prices on items such as grapes, sodas, and bulk items, and Aramark's prices were somewhat higher than prices at the local grocery stores. Lovin's official comment on the subject: "I am unable to disclose any information at this time. I have additional meetings with Mr. Myers planned; at the moment I think the information could only hurt food services.I think my overall goal is to help food services to be better for the students..." Clete Myers, Food Service Director, says he welcomes the task force and any constructive criticism that students have to offer. "We are looking to make a lot of changes," said Myers. "There have already been changes since last semester." Myers stressed the need for open communication between the students and Aramark. "My manager and myself are always here, and always willing to answer any question," said Myers. Myers feels that the food offered is both fairly priced and of good quality. Myers admits, however, that there is always room for change and improvement. "I don't want students going around saying the food sucks, you know?" said Myers. "That means I am not doing my job." Myers said that Aramark has just completed an analysis of their competitors and may be adjusting their prices accordingly. The task force itself was formed last fall and has not been as active as many thought it would. Jonathan Rowe, SGA president, could not be reached for comment on the study or the status of the task force. Cullowhee, USA Chesley Nominated forASGPres. By Sara White Contributing Writer On March 25, Western Carolina student David Chesley accepted his nomination to run for ASG President. Chesley currently serves as SGA Chief of Communications and University of North Carolina Association of Student Governments (ASG) Vice-President for Legislative Affairs. Nominations were made at the monthly meeting held last Sunday at UNC-Pembroke. Chesley's running mate for Senior Vice-President is Veronica Hatton, student body president at UNCP. Chesley and Hatton were nominated by WCU Senator Lex Davis. The election will be held April 21 at the last ASG meeting for this school year on the campus of North Carolina State University. Running against David and Veronica are incumbent ASG President Andrew Payne from NC State and running mate Sonia Blanks, who is student body president at Fayetteville State University. photos by Dawn N.
