  • Voices The Western Carolinian Page 5 Thursday, November 15, 1988 Martha McAfee EDITOR Welcome back WCU Students! I hope you all have your schedules worked out by now, and you're settled in classes. The Western Carolinian staff is looking forward to serving you for another semester. The Spring semester has brought on some new changes: a drive-thru in Cullowhee (Hardees), the opening of Stillwell, and a new basketball coach. Remember all those "after-hours" trips to Hardees when you had to wait in line with everyone else coming from parties? Or don't you hate having to sit by yourself in a restaurant? Well, now Hardees has a drive- thru for your convenience of the terrible rush hours in Cullowhee. Last semester I found myself cleaning the mud off of my shoes from the construction mess in front of Stillwell. Even though we have been bouncing back and forth from McKee to Stillwell, at least Stillwell is open now. Let me also remind you of the team that was left at the first of last season without a basketball coach. They suffered a terrible season, but now they are ready to redeem themselves with the extreme help of the new head coach, Dave Possinger. I'm sure the name sounds familiar. He's been the talk of the town for the past two weeks. It's been brought to my attention that the referees warn him, the players respect him, and the fans love him. The VMI/WCU game was my first chance to see Coach Possinger in action, and I thought he was wonderful. When the buzzer ran out, Possinger ran over and pointed to the crowd saying "Thank you!". It made me feel so special—and so close to the campus. I could just grasp a "family type" environment throughout the crowd. Possinger is what we really need. Someone who makes the students feel warm and excited to come out to the games. Another matter that I have on my mind (that I didn't mention in the beginning), as your editor and your friend, I would like to advise that you keep up with every class you've taken and make sure you have all your basic requirements in before you even file for graduation. Your senior year should be the most fun. However, please listen to someone who has been there. GET THOSE CREDITS IN-it's not only a headache, but a terrible heartache! In closing, I would like to say, I'm glad you're all back. I hope you'll enjoy our paper this semester. Let us hear your responses. We often use the new year as a time to make changes in our lives, to vow to do something to better ourselves. Perhaps this year you swore that you would learn how to use time more wisely, or that you would improve your relationships with others, or that you would take better care of your body. These are all great resolutions to make; however, the problem with making New Year's resolutions is not making them but keeping them. It's so difficult to adhere to the plan that you have for change, especially if you are doing it alone. If your problem is sticking to your resolutions, there may be help for you. Counseling and Psychological Services is offering groups this spring on a variety of topics to promote growth and self-awareness. If you join one or more of our groups you may find the support you need to make the changes you desire in life.
