The pageant started with the summer wear competition, in which contestants modeled everything from swim trunks to wetsuits. Jason Harbor won this competition, in his full-body wetsuit. Sam Greiner won the evening wear competition, after all of the contestants modeled their ideal outfits for a night on the town. Brooks Carroll came onstage in khakis and a tie. The pageant continued with a talent competition, which was full of a variety of performances including singing, basketball tricks, different versions of the Pledge of Allegiance, abdominal tricks, and a chubby bunny act with large marshmallows. Sam Greiner even donned orange pants and danced with members of the audience, including the chancellor himself. Courtney Tate took home the title after his blacklight dance performance with glow sticks. Harwood then asked each contestant a few questions concerning his hobbies, how the university would .remember him, advice for underclassmen on how to survive four> years in Cullowhee, or why he should be named Mr. Western Carolina. When asked why he should be Mr. Western Carolina, Jason Harbor responded, "I probably shouldn't." Before the judges went into deliberation about the contestants, Harwood announced the amount of money that the contestants had raised for the Webster House, although a representative from the organization was unable to attend the pageant. The total contribution totaled more than $270. After the judges tallied up the points for each contestant, Dr. Bill Haggard, associate vice-chancellor for student affairs, announced the winners. Brooks Carroll, sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta, won Mr. Congeniality. Fourth runner-up was Kelly Davis, sponsored by Delta Zeta. Third runner-up was Jeff Vaughn, sponsored by Panhellenic. Second runner-up was Dominique McFadden, sponsored by the Organization of Ebony Students. First runner-up was Courtney Tate, sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta. Sam Greiner, sponsored by Zeta Tau Alpha, was crowned Mr. Western Carolina.
