  • nd Wrap-up si■ •?^iioiciii y n Catamount Athletics Baseball Even though their season is far from o ver, the Catamount baseball team has had a successful, but quiet, season. They have a :hieved the 30 win mark, including wins o /er Clemson and Appalachian. It must be a theme, because the base- jbill team has been breaking records just :e the rest of the athletics teams. Chris [oore broke the WCU all-time doubles :cord, and at the time of publication is one BI away for that school-record. Also at the time of publication, junior Eric Johnson is one game away from tying a school-record game hitting streak of 27. EJ also holds the single-season record for stolen bases. Men's and Women's Golf The men's and women's golf teams didn't have the sort of year that they were hoping for. But, just as in all of the Catamount athletics of the year, they showed promise. The men's team placed 11th in the Southern Conference Championships, but placed a season-high sixth in The Citadel Invitational in Charleston. In head coach Steve Lott's first-year for the women, times were rough. However, despite finishing seventh at the Southern Conference Championships, the team, which was riddled with injuries to key players, shot a school-record low in the three- day event. Women's Tennis It was a rough season for Fred Weinman's women's tennis team. However, three freshmen showed a lot of promise. The trio of Georgian freshmen—Jenna Calomeris, Shelby Fitzpatrick, and Emmy King—picked up some of the slack when the injury bug bit the team. Predictions for 1999-2000 Apocalyptic predictions will be at an all-time high. The WCU football team will finish 8-3, including a second-straight win over the Boone Goons to keep the Jug in the Hinds University Center. The basketball teams, and the volleyball team, with their strong nuclei, will make overcome low preseason predictions to make runs at the Southern Conference titles—as will the track & field teams. Speaking of volleyball, the move to the Ramsey Center from Reid will be met with the same student apathy and deafening silence that faces Ramsey's other inhabitants. And women's soccer will catch on—after a rough, and slow, beginning.
