THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/May 1, 1980/ Page 11 Share America plangrowing Youth Hostels announce new trip American Youth Hostels, Inc. announced three new trips in its popular "Share America" tour plan which brings hostelers from Europe together with Americans. The travelers will explore different sections of the U.S. by van and public transportation. Although spaces are filling rapidly, there are openings in the "Share America" groups for American members between the ages of 18 and 35. The three-week East Coast trip, which begins July 11 in New York City and ends in Nassau, the Bahamas on August 1, will include eighteen Swiss members and two AYH-trained leaders. The group will visit New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C, Nashville, Tennessee, Atlanta, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, Orlando, Miami Beach, Florida, and Nassau, the Bahamas. Sixteen German travelers have signed on for the two-week West Coast trip- and the three-week HR resigns From Page 10 Randy Rice: No. In regards to who's in charge of that complex when we leave here at 10:30, or whenever, we're not going to expand beyond that point. We're going to have a clear understanding as to who is in charge of that complex. You've got to understand as to what kind of problem we're dealing with here. I can make the interpretation that individuals may not be capable of being in charge of a complex where 400 men's lives are at stake. Janie Warner: Let me make a suggestion. Why don't we deal with the incident at hand. Randy Rice: I am trying to get the perameters cleared up. I don't want anybody trying to dictate the perameters of the discussion. I don't want to put the thing in a box. Janie Warner: OK, can we deal with this situation first? Because some of the people sitting here don't need to be involved, maybe that doesn't need to be continued tonight. Maybe we can take this one incident and deal with the people out there, and then we can finish that incident and get other things done. Bill Clements: Am I the Head Resident of Leatherwood right now? At this point? Bonnie Bronson: Yes. Janie Wamer: Yes Bill Clements: I am? I resignation in the morning. END OF TRANSCRIPT resign. You'll have my After the meeting ended, Scott/Walker Area Coordinator Janie Warner went to Leatherwood to talk with Bill Clement,. Once inside, she was spotted by Robert Owen, the RA for 4th South, who filed a housing incident report on her for being in Leatherwood without a male escort. She refused to give the RA her Social Security number or sign the report. According to SGA Public Defender Allen Jorden Housing Director Rice violated no less that six articles of the Student Bill of Rights during the meeting and in particular those sections with the right of a student to an administrative hearing, or a hearing by the student judiciary. In addition, no charges were filed against Clements before the hearing was undertaken. According to Jorden, this wasn't the first time Rice has shown total disregard for student rights, saying that "Randy Rice and Bill Farnesworth seem to think they are not subject to the Student Bill of Rights." Jordan went on to say that as far as he was able to determine, the students from Leatherwood that Housing Director Rice referred to were merely complaining about the collective assesment situation, not diciplinary questions. Before the hearing began, SGA Public Defender Jordan was informed by Rice that he had no right to speak in the meeting. Jordan went on to say in order for Housing not to be involved in a case of possible bias, Janie Warner should receive her letter of termination from housing today, since she is guilty of the same offenses Clements was terminated for. In a related move, Dr. Glenn Stiilion, vice-chancellor for student development, told the Western Carolinian that he was launching an investigation into alleaged misconduct by several housing staff members. Southwest trip. Each trip will have one German and one AHY Leader. The West Coast itinerary begins July 26 in San Francisco and ends there August 8. This two-week itinerary includes Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Parks and Los Angeles. Travelers on the three-week Southwest trip will visit Denver, Colorado Springs, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Jackson Hole, Teton National Park and Yellowstone among other places. The trip begins July 17 in Denver and ends there on August 6. American members may travel independently, at their own expense "on one's own" with the German participants until their return to Germany on August 13. Although the transportation for the trips is mainly via 12-passenger vans and some public transportation, hostelers will have ample opportunity for horseback riding, rafting, hiking and cycling along the way. A number of cultural, theatrical, diplomatic and educational exchange activities have been planned for each tour. By directly sharing the learning experiences of foreign visitors, an American has the unusual opportunity to better understand other cultures and to enlarge his or her own sense of America. The AYH "Share America" program of Education Through Travel is in keeping with the Presidential directive encouraging two-way communication between Americans and people of other countries. The cost of each trip is all inclusive for lodgings, meals, transportation and insurance, as well as all leadership services, from arrival to ending dates. Details and trip prices are available in the brochure, A Unique Travel Opportunity to Share America, from AYH National Travel, Delaplane, VA 22025 or by telephone, toll free: 800-336-6019. 1-524-6677 Franklin, N.C.
