Sams News Editor A recent merger between MCI, WCU's current off-campus internet provider, and WorldCom, which is still in its final stages, has caused MCI to pass over their campus internet service to Cable & Wireless Internet, a telecommunications company out of Vienna, Virginia. The change from campusMCI to campusCW will mean that E-mail addresses and passwords will change. Subscribers will be able to receive E- mail at their current campusMCI address for up to six months after the transition is complete. After these six months, E-mail to a cur rent campusMCI address will be sent back to sender. News, E-mail, and Dialer configurations will have to be changed, but campusCW plans to post a full configuration guide on their web page, which is located at www.cw- usa.net. Little else will change because of this merger. E-mail and internet services will still be done over the current MCI internet backbone that campusMCI uses, and the local dialing number, prices, billing options and service numbers will stay the same, according to E-mail sent from Cable & Wireless. CampusCW will also continue to support Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, and Macintosh platforms. Election Commission Clarifies SGA Senate Qualifications The SGA Elections Commission has just determined that some freshmen may have been inadvertently omitted from eligibility for Senate positions during the upcoming elections. In an effort to promptly rectify this situation, the Commission has taken the following steps: 1. Elections for President and Vice President - These elections will proceed as announced. The debate on September 14 will be scheduled as planned. 2. Elections for Senate - These elections will be delayed until October 7. Applications from freshmen and other eligible students will be due in the Student Affairs Office by 5:00 p.m. on September 23. Anyone who files an application and has eligibility verified by the SAO may begin campaigning immediately. Candidates who have already filed Senate applications do not need to refile and may continue campaigning. Criteria for Senator are as follows: -Enrolled full-time at WCU -Must have an overall QPR of at least 2.0 The commission regrets this error and any inconvenience it may cause. We encourage students to get out and vote! Thank you. Sincerely, Bryan Dodge, Chair for the SGA Elections Commission Main Street Construction In Sylva On Schedule by Seth R. Sams News Editor According to Jim Bosworth, the Director of Sylva Partners in Renewal, the construction taking place on Main Street in Sylva is on schedule. Bosworth stated at the time of the interview that the new water line was not completed yet. but would be finished very soon. When this is complete, and the new guttering system is installed, the Department Of Transportation will draw up a contract with APEC, an outside firm that does paving for the North Carolina DOT, and Main Street should be paved by the end of September, according to Bosworth.
