I have seen the rules change around this place every year. Last year a rule was made stating that all residents could have a guest in their dorms 24 hours during the weekends. This year that rule was changed. Why? I asked some resident assistants about this. They said that since there was a new vice-chancellor the rules had changed. I still didn't see how having a new vice-chancellor would change this, so I asked someone else. It was explained to me that this was a decision passed by the SGA last year. But since there is a new vice-chancellor this rule had been abolished. It was also mentioned that if the student body wanted these rules changed again they would have to voice their opinions. Instead of being passed by the SGA this will have to go through RSA and then to SGA and maybe then it will take effect once more. ■ This really upset me to know that some new guy came in to help, yet is taking away some of our rights. It sounds like a bunch of political bull to me, but to get this changed back to the way it was where we could have 24 hour visitation on the weekends relies on each and every student living on this campus. If you wish this to be changed or care to voice your opinion on the matter, please e-mail the vice-chancellor and let him know. If he doesn't hear from you, the rules will never change. Sincerely, Lance Love Traffic Problems? Dear Editor, I am writing in concern for the recent change in the traffic pattern at the front entrance to campus. Why did the University change this intersection while ignoring the intersection of Central Drive and Centennial Drive? Through my two years in Cullowhee I have never come close to having an accident at the front entrance but have nearly wrecked my car numerous times at the Central/Centennial intersection. The Central/Centennial intersection receives a heavy load of automobile traffic on a daily basis and a considerable amount of student traffic. The front entrance intersection receives no pedestrian traffic and only car traffic when the turning light is green. The Central/Centennial intersection is blocked to the right by the big Wachovia sign and this makes it hard to see oncoming traffic. The front entrance has sightlines good enough that the old traffic pattern should not have been changed. The Central/Centennial intersection needs a three-way stoplight installed in order to assure the safety of those driving or walking on campus. The University Police makes a good effort to control the traffic at the Central/Centennial, but many times traffic is backed up and there's no U.P. in sight. They should not have to be called out at the conclusion of each class to direct traffic when a stoplight and the typical "Walk/Don't Walk" sign would serve the purpose. Mr. Bardo, Mr. Macabee, what are you going to do about the most important traffic hazard on campus?
