Natasha Tyson Staff Reporter There is something that dwells in me that causes me to focus on an actor cr actress and begin to really read inside that person. It gets to the point where I just happen to "find" that person on TV or in a video store, and I am pleased with what I see and wonder how come I never paid any attention to it before. After a short time span, I soon learn that that person has passed away. A most significant case in particular is the death of actor Raul Julia on October 25. You know him, the new (and best) Gomez in Addams Family and Addams Family Values. You probably never paid that much attention to him before, but this time, I did—in the same fashion as I described to you before. I thought he was the "shiznit" in those spin-offs. His zany style, great acting ability, and those bulging eyes with the mustachioed flavor above the lip had me on the floor. The man was wonderful in his craft. You notice these things and then you notice that he's a kick-ass vocal musician who has performed in opera workshops. Amazing... and now gone. Mr. Julia isn't the only one: John Candy, Burt Lancaster, Brandon Lee, Raymond Burr—people you'd want to classify as "Hollywood Innocents." Their fate wasn't claimed by drug overdoses, AIDS, or suicide, just untimely death. A stroke took Raul Julia's life. John Candy suffered heat exhaustion which lead to a heart attack while he slept. Brandon Lee had a little mishap with a prop-gun in our own little city of Wilmington. I'm not here to piss off any type of activist group. I just want to emphasize what you already know: there are some people who are walking and talking one day, and the next, they're goije. Imagine discovering a wishing star in the sky, then noticing that when you stepped inside to get a telescope, it was no longer there. "Yes," says Earle. you. "She wants me to write about toilets?" "Well, she wants someone to. If you don't want to..." You have to get a girl to take "Oh." * * * * * * This week I would like to focus on an issue that bothers us all. I'm sure that every one of us has, at one point or another, said to ourselves: "Are the toilets in the buildings of my chosen major as clean as the toilets in other buildings on campus?" Well, fear not, because I set out to find the inside story, the truth, the "scoop," if you will. Before setting out on my mission, I knew only one thing about campus toilets. I knew that some people in my dorm don't know the difference between the toilet and the floor, the toilet and the sink, the toilet and the shower, or the toilet and the hall-oops, almost forgot the water fountain » [Associate Editor's note: Yuck-E. W.]. After surveying the scene, I found that just about all rest rooms on campus are the same, with the exception of the ones in Belk building. I found some stuff in the sink. I assumed it was art. It's no one's fault, really. I mean, students get art on their hands and have to get it off somewhere. The toilets there were fine. * * * "You get to do the girl's rest rooms, too..." "Really? That's pretty cool." My inspections also showed that, for the most part, the WOMEN'S bathrooms were cleaner than the MEN's. Who knew? Perhaps it's the absence of urinals. That raises another question (if you will allow me to go on a tangent): How many females don't know what a urinal is? My mother didn't until a few years ago. I made fun of her at the time, thinking of how out of touch with society she -was. But then I thought, "Well, where would she have seen a urinal?" But I digress. When reading an article on the status of the toilets on campus, one would expect to hear some kind of public outcry directed at "the pompous authority," or about how unsanitary they are. This is not the case here (except for my dorm and the lower level MEN's room in Hunter Library. Stay away from there... far away). I don't see very much wrong with our rest rooms except for an occasional missing roll of paper. Even if there were a problem, there wouldn't have been anyone to blame but ourselves. It's not the janitor's fault if some moron makes a mess.
