Is Last Minute Productions really going to present a true "alternative" rock band for all of the students on campus who could scream if another all- cover band shows up on our UC lawn again? Pinch me if I'm dreaming, but I think the folks at LMP are actually getting the message from the student body. "We want rock, not pansy Hootie clones." The first LMP conquest ended up being somewhat successful. Bus Stop proved to be one of the all-around best bands to play the UC in a long time. I was shocked. Last [year, we had a virtual drought of talented bands at LMP projects. Can they pull off two [good bands in one semester? They seem to be trying. , Outcry, a New Jersey-based group, is scheduled to play September 14 in the Cherokee room. Outcry has been described as "a guitar-driven, hook-oriented rock band with a rough edge that plays well on cam puses and vocals strong enough to outlast the current trends." That's all well and good, but do they really rock? Their first album, titled Wentworth, was; recently released. It probably isn't available at most outlets, but the band will most likely] have an abundance of copies at the show. Would it be worth the money? You make the call. I truly hope this band is the real thing. This area could use some pure rock, and on a regular basis. That would be nice. I would rather have some of my tuition money go towards fine entertainment, not a shiny new campus police patrol car. That's a whole different article. The show will begin at 9 p.m., and th^ cover charge will be a mere dollar. And if you really like the band, donate a little more to their gas fund. I have a feeling they won't be getting paid a whole awful lot. Rock on kids! bj Chris Carrier Staff Reporter Poet Robert Creeley will read from his works on Friday, September 15. The reading will begin at 8 p.m. in the recital hall of the Coulter Building. The program is part of the 1995-96 Lectures. Concerts and Exhibitions Scries. For four decades. Crcclcy has laboredathis art. He studied at Harvard, then studied and taught at the famed Black Mountain College early in the 1950s. Now he is the Samuel P Capcn Professor of Poetry and the Humanities at New York State University. His labor has paid off. Creeley is the winner of several awards including the Frost Medal, the Fullbright Award and the Shelley Memorial Award. He is the author of 13 collections of poetry and four collections of fiction and other prose. Echoes, Creeley's most recent work of poetry, was published in 1994. The Los Angeles Times said, "Decades of work have established Robert Creeley gently, slyly, in the canon of great American poets." Publisher's Weeklywi, "[Crccly] constantly gauges what it means to be human, in poems that cope with the rush of memories, the chaos of dreams, the sudden flare <»t feelings."
