Jones Staff Reporter Lynn Featherstone, who is the head of the North Carolina Football Association at UNC-Chapel Hill, visited campus on March 24 in hopes of recruiting a WCU league to join their association. The football association consists of athletic individuals who play full contact football while representing their school but are not sponsored by their schools. Everyone is encouraged to participate, but there are three requirements one must meet before he/she is eligible to play: 1. The participant must be a member of a university. Membership means being an undergraduateor graduate studentand any staff or faculty member. 2. The participant must presently have some type of health insurance. 3. The student must be able to pay a membership due of $70.00. Although the Football Club may not be sponsored or financed by any group or committee affiliated with WCU, they will be able to use the school facilities in order to practice and play their scheduled games. The club has had three meetings including one during which they elected officers. President Dean Sprigg says, "We have already had 53 guys show up for a meeting. We want everyone to come on out and play." If the football club is started at Western, they will compete in home and away games during the fall semester against N.C. State, UNC-C, Appalachian State University, East CarolinaUniversity and Duke, all of whom already have leagues of their own. If you are interested in playing or have any questions about the football club, please contact Dean Sprigg at 4601.
