  • Volume 57 Number 26 Sports The Western Carolinian Page 6 Thursday, April 23, 1992 Robert M. Robertson Out of Bounds This is the last Out of Bounds ever to be published on this campus. To some, this will be a happy occasion. Still others will continue to burn me in effigy. And others may be saddened. NOT! However, I hereby copyright the title of this column for my possible future use and/or for protection against plagarizers. Just in case my English degree is worth something, I may want to draw from my one brilliant idea from my past. I always go fishing on Easter break, this year was no different. I had to see if my luck had abandoned me because my skill doesn't seem to be worth a damn anymore. Fortunately for my sanity, Lady Luck was with me on Good Friday cause me and my dad caught 21 crappie, white bass, and bream. Those white bass were real mean bastards. They'd raise their dorsal fins and try their damndest to impale you with those things. It was maddening. But I got the last laugh. They all ended up on the dinner table Saturday night. Those little scutters didn' t look quite as perky after we rolled them in cornmeal and boiled them in oil. Overall it was a relaxing time, and speaking of relaxing... I envy Bobby Setzer. He gets to retire this summer and spend all his time hunting and fishing, which is how God meant for retirement to be spent. Unless he's got a wife. Then, she'll have him painting the blue room, digging up weeds, carrying out the garbage, and hanging curtain rods, which is NOT how God meant for us to live out our days. Now I'm depressed. I only have 42 years left before retirement. Then I can spend all my time hunting and fishing. Except the old wife will have me hanging curtain rods, carrying out the garbage, digging up weeds, and painting the blue room. It's going to be a long life. Laettner was in the news...again. This time there was some garbage in the Winston-Salem Journal about him not being eligible to play because of some GQ article. The only thing he wasn't eligible for was marriage to the opposite sex. I think perhaps this whole cockamamie story was concocted because some graduate of Wake Forest was upset because they only beat Duke once this year. And to think they were only one of two teams to accomplish that this year. For my opinions on Wake, see "Out of Bounds" in the Sept. 12, 1991 issue. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone this year who contributed to my column. If it wasn't for you, I would have had to find someone else to pick on. In other words, thanks for being easy targets. My thanks to... Editor Head Cheese, for wearing ugly ties and dressing formally every day. You earned your nickname, Felix. The Cullowhee Five-O, for giving me tickets every single day of my collegiate experience. Onedayl'll buy a Hardee's franchise and trade ham biscuits for a full pardon. Auxilary Food Services, for not making me eat there every single day of my collegiate experience. We lost four games (conference) and to me that's too much. There's always room for improvement." Carotinion photo by Hunttr Pape Strike three, out three, game over.
