The Cats traveled to ETSU 2-1 overall and a chance to go 2-0 in the conference only to return beaten badly. Each school will be trying to come back from lackluster performances from the previous week. Western will once again try to erase the embarrassing road loss, this time at the hands of Connell Maynor and the A&T Aggies. Although the Cats have looked good and did not perform badly, the youth of the squad has caused some inconsistency that Coach Hodgin hopes will settle itself in the three weeks at home. "We have three home games in a row and we must utilize what advantages we have playing at home to turn things around and develop positive attitudes," said Hodgin. "We've got to regroup like we did after N. C. State and work hard to get our freshmen and young sophomores playing with confidence and competence." East Tennessee will be trying to gain their first win of the season on Saturday. The Bucs began the season with three straight losses and have a six game losing streak dating back to the last three games of the 1989 season. ETSU led nationally ranked Middle Tennessee State 14-2 in the second quarter before the Buccaneers surrendered 46 unanswered points, losing 48-14. In the first two weeks, East Tennessee traveled to Appalachian State and lost as the Mountaineers rallied to win 34- 24 and was shocked in Johnson City when Samford (Alabama) upset the Bucs 17-13. They will enter E. J. Whit- mire on Saturday seeking to win for the first time in their last four tries. The last win in Cullowhee was 1981 when the Cats blew a 21-0 lead and lost 32-23. The Bucs won the last game in the series when they destroyed the Cats in what former head coach Dale Strahm stated as getting "taken to the woodshed" in a 30-11 defeat. Western last played ETSU on a Thursday night before a crowd of 9,247 attending and thousands watching via ESPN, who televised the 33- 23 win in tribute to the late head coach Bob Waters. The Cats lead the series 15- 14-1 and have won the last seven of eight and 11 of 15 since it was renewed in 1975. East Tennessee lost the man responsible for defeat in Johnson City, George Searcy. But, Coach Hodgin says Bucs coach Don Riley has found a suitable replacement in Derrick Hollins. He also has cause to worry in senior quarterback Randy Meredith. Meredith has passed for 531 yards and three touchdowns in three games completing 60% of his passes. The Cats have only two turnovers in the first three games, lowest in the Southern Conference. They are also among the leaders in the conference in penalties. They also continue to be without a field goal in the sixth straight game. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:30pm. Intramurals Scene 1. I saw the student pricing and my next move was obvious: get one. "Some other computers are cheaper, but they're a pain to learn, and working on them can be a grueling experience. Last year, a friend bought another kind of computer against my advice and has used it for maybe 15 hours. What a waste. "Macintosh, on the other hand, . is a logical extension of the mind. It lets you concentrate on what's in your paper, not .on how to get it on paper. You can create professional-looking documents in minutes, and you lose the fear of learning new programs because they all work in the same way. "Once you've worked with a Macintosh, there's no turning back'.' Apple Macintosh is your good friend and is a stepping stone to a great career.
