"We played as consistently well in the tournament as wc have all season, and we played as fine a match as I've seen us play in that quarterfinal match against UNC-Charlotte. We just did a good job all around, in all phases of the game." Coach Peele noted. The Lady Cats won twelve matches in a row in one stretch in the season and won the James Madison Invitational tournament in mid-season while rolling to These WCU footballers celebrate after the Cat's win over East Tennessee State last Saturday. Carolinian Photo by Robert Lahser Rossington - Collins by Robert Porter Staff Writer Rosslngton-Collins Band...page 10 It can be said that last Friday began the night before, at least for the members of LMP. Stage workers began at 7 o'clock on Thursday in preparation for the Rossington Collins Band Concert. Like the day before, the day of the concert was a hetic day for many of the people involved. Plans were made well in advance, but last minute details were still in abundance. The day's ritual began at 11 a.m. when two semis and a van pulled in bearing the bulk of the equipment and road crew. A major portion of the stage was completed, so seemingly all that was left was to set up the P.A. and wait for the sound check. The manual labor, done by and large by students and members of LMP, continued up until showtime. The anticipation of Rossington Collins and their backup group Jesse Bolt began to mount. The band members all showed at various times, but all were present for a sound check at approximately 6 o'clock. Shortly before then a white BMW pulled up in back of Reid gym and a slim, bearded Artemus Pyle climbed out and asked for use of a phone. I spoke with Artemus in the Chelsea Galley of the UC. He told me of his present band called Rainbow Warrior and his ties with Rossington Collins. Pyle was a friendly fellow and did not resent being asked questions. He was eager to tell about his band and his new sense of direction in music. His band is rehearsing in Bat Cave, N.C. in hopes of an album at the end of the winter. But, Friday he was concerned with his friends in the Rossington Collins Band. The excerpt that follows is some of his feelings toward the band. Lynyrd Skynyrd. and himself. WC: I hear that you have a band together and are rehearsing at Bat Cave? PYLE: "Yes. We have a nucleus of people together, but we aren't set on a guitar player as of yet, but we'll keep auditioning until we find the right combination. The band is called Rainbow Warrior. The name is derived from Indian folk lore in that the spirit of the Rainbow- Warrior cannot be destroyed. It is a colorful name, a nice name, and you can do a lot with it." WC: Is the music compatible with Lynyrd Skynyrd? PYLE: "Of course I had nothing to do with Lynyrd Skynyrd except that I was their drummer. I had been writing songs, writing lyrics and I've been doing a lot of singing. I do probably fifty percent of the singing in this band. But everybody in the band has vocals. I also still
