Sports The Western Carolinian Page 11 Thursady, Sept 7, 1989 Ne\V Beginning (Continued from page 8) Anthony Bare is returning as the Catamount punter and Clay Cox will be responsible for place kicking. The 1989 Catamounts will be facing perhaps one of the toughest schedules in division I-AA football and Strahm is excited about the challenge. Among the teams that the Cats will face are defending I-AA National Champion Furman and three other teams that were in last year's playoffs. Eastern Kentucky is one of these teams, and the Cats will start the seasonoffagainstthem. Last season, Western hosted the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky for homecoming. This encounter proved frustrating for West ern fans as the Colonels won big, 32- 14. This season, Eastern Kentucky is ranked number 4 in I-AA polls and has the best record of any I-AA team in history, along with two national championships to their credit. Kickoff time at Eastern Kentucky is 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 2. A new era is beginning and Western Carolina University is buzzing with excitement. For all of us at the Western Carolinian, I would like to wish the Cats the best of luck in their 1989 season. GO CATS! GRAND OPENING! CAVEMAN'S * # SURlF SHOP CULLOWHEE up to 90% Off Everything!
