On the Air With Power 91 Power 91's "Mr. Country" rrnr mlllllfllllllllll ■■■■■■■■***■» By MUSIC MANN "Jay" Scott? Now how did Power 91 's country DJ come up with a radio name like that. Well "Jay" Scott Moore says he gets asked that question a tot. You see back home in Monroe, NC, "Jay" Scott was known as "Scott"; but on the WCU campus "Scott" started out being called "Jay Scott". Having three names - "Scott", "Jay", and "Jay Scott", can be slightly confusing, as "Jay" Moore will attest to, but he seems to be holding up well under the burden. Moore began his radio career in his freshman year at WCU. When he came to the campus in 1984, he found himself in a new place where he didn't know a single soul. Moore turned to his interest in radio to pass his free time. "I attended all the WWCU staff meetings" says Moore, "and eventually got a weekend show." On that first show, Moore was Theatres 586-5918 Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m. One Show Nightly at 7 p.m. "HYSTERICALLY FUNNY! ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF THE YEAR!" This will be a special feature in the February 12 issue of the newspaper. They are FREE, and you may send as many as you wish. But PLEASE, no phone-ins! They must be in writing and you can drop them off at the newspaper's offices located in the Old Student Union Building by Tuesday, February 10. known on the airwaves as "Scott Moore on the Air." Moore realized that as a air-personality his name needed a little more pizazz, so he added his previously unused first name. Moore liked the sound of this new combination. By Moore's sophmore year he was working regularly at Power 91 on the weekends and occasionally filling in on weekday shifts. When "The Country Show" lost Tynerte James to graduation, Moore jumped at the chance to have a permanent slot. As Moore puts it, "I grew up with country music and still love it." At the beginning of last semester Moore decided to change the name of his show to "Power Country" and adapt the format used by "K97" and "WSOC" in Charlotte. These changes are ones which Moore feels have worked out very well. In addition to being a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho and Sigma Chi Alpha, Moore's interests include sports. At Power 91 he has also found an outlet for this interest as an associate sports director. Moore enjoys covering WCU's athletic activities and says "I feel that I am serving the students with Catamount information that they might not get anywhere else."
