North Carolina State won the meet with 31 points as Wolfpack runners tooks 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 12th places. Wake Forest placed second, followed by Duke, Brevard, St. Augustine's, Appalachian State and WCU. Behind the Catamounts were Pembrpke State, UNC- Charlotte. UNC-Wilmington,CampbelI, UNC-Chapel Hill, Davidson East Carolina, North Carolina A&T, Nortn Carolina Central,and Shaw. Roberts, a junior from Mt. Holly, finished second with a time of 24:53 over the 5 mile course, 16 seconds out of first place. Wake Forest's Mike Palmer was the individual medalist with a time of 24:37. Baker, a junior from Union Grove, placed 9th with a clocking of' 25:22. Both Roberts and Baker were named to the all-state cross country team by virtue of their top ten finishes in the individual standings. Coach Dan Kenney's team will see action again October 20 at the UNC Charlotte Invitational. Soccer Team Loses Western Carolina's soccer team traveled to Florida last week to face three highly regarded programs and came back on the short end of the score in all three games. The losses left WCU with a 1-11-1 record going into this Wednesday's 7:00 p.m. game at Whitmire Stadium with Limestone College. The Catamounts opened their Florida tour last Wednesday at the University of South Florida and fell to the Brahmas, 10-0. USF previously beat the likes of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, the NCAA champion in 1979; Alabama A&M, the national championship runner- up in 1981; and South Carolina. Coach Dean Hamrick took his team to Lakeland last Thursday to face Florida Southern and lost 6-3. George Garth, Dennis Gagnon and Kirk Kropinack scored WCU's goal. After a day off, the Catamounts moved west to St. Petersburg where they met Eckerd College and lost 9-1. Garth scored Western's only goal. Following the home game with Limestone, the Catamount kickers return to the road for their next four playing dates - Oct. 24 at UNC Charlotte; Oct. 25 at Old Dominion; and Oct. 27-28 at Virginia Tech's tournament - before returning for their last home game with Furman, Oct. 30. WCU — Furman Tickets Tickets for the WCU-Furman game in Greenville, October 27, will be on sale at the WCU Athletic Ticket Office through 12 noon, Friday, October 26. All tickets are priced $10.00. There are no special ticket prices for WCU students. The WCU Athletic Ticket Office is located on the second floor of the Jordan-Phillips Fieldhouse adjacent to Whitmire Stadium. Office hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Kickoff time for the WCU-Furman game on October 27 in Paladin Stadium is 1:30 pm. Women's Cross-country Western Carolina University's first-ever women's cross country team participated in the North Carolina Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship and finished 10th in the field of 10 state colleges and universities. The meet was run over North Carolina State University'scourse in Raleigh. N.C. State won the meet by taking five of the first seven places for 19 points. Appalachian State was a distant second with 69 points. Duke (72) was third, followed by Wake Forest (74), North Carolina (152), Davidson (170), St. Augustine's (198), Campbell (231), UNC- Wilmington (245) and WCU (306). Western's top finisher was Kelly Eldridge in 55th place. Coach Patty Wilson's team faced Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa Tuesday and is scheduled to close out its 1984 season next Thursday, October 25, in Cullowhee against Brevard College. Tickets for the 1984 Thunderbird or the 1984 Bronco, winner's choice, are being sold for five dollars apiece. The winner will driven to Stem's Ford in Tyron to pick up their choice of ears, which was provided to the university at price. Tom Bommcr. the Director of the Big Cat Club, reports a S9.000 dollar profit in last year's raffle a Ford Mustang, which was won by George Mallonee of Sylva. This year's expectations are higher, so mew here in the S20.000 range, according to Bommer. Ihe club is at somewhat of a disadvantage in that there is one less home game this year and no open date, leaving two fewer weeks lor ticket sales. Bommer acknowledges Bobby Joe Stott as "a good friend of the University." Stott supplies courtesy cars tor coaches at Western. Cagle Ford in Sylva is also a supplier oI cars to the University. He has provided free ambulance service at all WCU football games for 20 years. He gradusted trom Western Carolina University with a bachlor of science degree in business administration in 1959. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill prior to entering Western. He is on the board ot directors of the United Family Life Insurance Co. of Atlanta, and is past chairman of the North Carolina Mutual Burial Association Commission. He is a member of the Foundation Board of Southwestern Technical College, former president of the Jackson County United Fund and former member of CJ. Harris Community Hospital's board. He and his family raise, breed and show Appalooas horses, and his three children, Reginald E./ Jr., William Ed and Mary, have worn numerous regional and national awards. Moody has been an alderman for the town of Dillsboro for 10 years. He and his wife, the former Judith Fisher, a 1964 graduste of WCU and current adviser for Sigms Kappa sorority, live in Dillsboro.
