Indians' Playing In anticipation of full-house performances, the University Players of WCU will break with tradition and open their production of Arthur Kopit's "Indians" Sunday, Nov. 16, adding two more shows to the usual six-night run. The play will be presented daily through Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre of WCU's Stillwell Science Building. A matinee also is set for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Little Theatre is being adapted for the environmental staging of the Wild West Show through the use of temporary stage platforms and unusual seating arrangements. For this reason, the house will open 30 minutes prior to the performance with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Theatre-goers are advised to wear comfortable clothing as they may be required to sit in seats on the stage, on the floor of the stage, on a platform or in regular seats. The playwright has described "Indians" as "a combination of the Wild West Show, vaudeville and circus...It's hallucinatory mosaic; a nightmare panorama of Buffalo Bill reliving his life and trying to work out where he went wrong." The action takes place in the center ring of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. There are dances, phony horses, things constantly going wrong, mock murders that turn into real murders and conversation with the dead. Performers in the Wild West Show include Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Ned Buntline and Wild Bill Hickok. Their victims are Geronimo, Chief Joseph, Sitting Bull and other Plains Indians. As these characters reenact the conquest of the West, the.legend of the Western hero bravely taming a Continues on page 17.
