  • Organizations and events November 29, 1979/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/Page ? Three stooges Pi Lambda Phi will be hosting their First Annual "Three Stooges Film Festival" on Thursday, December 6, 1979 at Forsyth Auditorium. There will be two showings Thursday at seven and nine p.m. Admission is $1 for students. Belle of Amherst Actress Susan King will portray the American poet Emily Dickinson in the one-woman show "The Belle of Amherst," to be presented at 8 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5) in the Music Recital Hall at WCU. The play, by William Luce, combines anecdotes. poems, and excerpts from Miss Dickinson's letters to tell the storv of her life. It has been called "a love affair with language" A native of Georgia, Miss King is a graduate of Mars Hill College, where she was named best actress of the year. She has performed in a number of productions of the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (SART), including "The Belle of Amherst". Miss King has served as artist-in-residence for the North Carolina Arts Council in Clay County, and is co-founder of the Licklog Players in Hayesville. During the past season she acted professionally in Tennessee and West Virginia. Miss King first appeared in the SART production of "The Belle of Amherst" in March 1978. Robert Jones. The Cullowhee performance is sponsored by the WCU department of English. Admission will be $1 for adults and 75 cents for students. Spring In England There will be a meeting of all those participating in the Spring in England program. All interested should be at the U.C. Snack Baron Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. Honor society Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society, held its Fall initiation ceremony on November 7th for students who achieved a 3.5 QPR by their second semester. The new initiates are Kennety Allen, David Hooten, David Nutty, Rebecca Sharpe, Paul Verderber, David Turpin, and Mary Stone. Freshmen who achcivc at least a 3.5 QPR this Fall will be eligible for membership in the Spring. Material display The early Childhood "Senior Block", will be exhibiting and displaying teacher-made materials in Killian 104, December 5th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on December 6th from 9 a.m. until noon. This exhibit is held at the close of each semester, for the prospective teachers to display materials they have made to use in learning activities in an early childhood education, program. These materials must be made by the students and serve a versatile function in the classroom. The public is cordially asked to come and browse. Outing club mm »M»»»»»/»»mm7vm7!!>. The Outing Club will hold its last meeting of the Fall semester Wednesday night, December 5 at 6 p.m. in Stillwell 211. Everyone interested in the _Christmas- New Year's backpacking trip to Cumberland Island National Seashore should attend. This trip is limited to 20 students and will depart from Cullowhee Dec. 28 and will return Jan. 4. Cumberland Island is a large sea-island off the Georgia coast. It is 16 miles long by 3 miles wide and has over 50 miles of beautiful hiking trails. The island abounds in wildlife. Anyone interested but who cannot make it to the meeting is urged to contact Tim Lawrence at 293-5054. Data processing The Data Processing Management Association is having an important meeting Tuesday night December > 4, 1979 at 7 p.m. in Forsyth building in room 220. New officers will be elected for the spring semester, so all members must attend this meeting. Any interested students are welcome to attend. Everyone is welcome. Blind Biology "Science for the Handicapped" will be the subject of a slide presentation at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the auditorium of the Natural Sciences Building. Speaker at the presentation will be Dorothy Tombaugh, author of "Biology for the Blind" and other articles on integrating physically handicapped students with other students. Her visit is sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. The presentation will be open without charge to teachers, parents, handicapped persons, and others interested in the subject. Further information is available by calling Elizabeth James. WCU trustees A meeting of the WCU boa. d of trustees originally set for Thursday has been resche luled for 10 a.m. Dec. 13 in the board room of WCU's ' niversity Administration/Mountain Heritage Center.
