PAGES/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/MARCH 29, 1979 APO to sponsor Bloodmobile Thurs, Alpha Phi Omega will sponsor a visit by the Red Cross Bloodmobile Tuesday through Thursday, from noon to 5 p.m. at the University Center. This will be the university's annual three day visit for a goal of 125 pints each day. Red Cross officials are often asked about individual and family credits for blood donations and charges made to hospital patients for transfusions. According to Larry Pate, Representative for the Asheville Regional Red Cross Blood Center, credits are no longer necessary in areas served by Red Cross. To protect students or staff from penalties elsewhere, Red Cross would offer to send actual blood to the area where it was used. A record is kept for each individual who donates blood and plastic donor cards are issued by the Jackson County Chapter about 6 to 8 weeks after the donation; but these cards only provide recognition to those who regularly support Red Cross Blood Services with their donations. As for charges related to blood transfusions, Mr. Pate states that the blood donated to Red Cross is free, but Red Cross has to pay the cost of recruiting, collecting, testing, typing and delivering the blood to hospitals. Red Cross depends on public donations to support its activities but it does not receive enough money to finance Blood Services so it must pass these costs on to the blood user. These are routinely covered by most medical insurance plans or Medicare. Alpha Phi Omega and the Jackson County Chapter encourage eligible students and staff to donate blood at the April visit. Mlctg papers entered by faculty Three management and marketing faculty members at WCU recently presented papers at the sixth annual meeting of the Southwestern Federation of Administrative Disciplines in Houston, Texas. The professors and their papers are Dr. Keith T. Stephens, "Applying Marketing to the Enrollment Problems of Four-year Colleges—An Update, With Particular Reference to Business Majors"; Dr. William D. Kane, Jr., "Power: An Action Oriented, Organizational Perspective"; and Dr. Myron J. Leonard, "Food Chain Employment for Management Positions: The Problem of Unfavorable Career Images." Stephens serves as professor of marketing and head of the department of management and marketing. A graduate of Brigham Young University, he holds the MBA from the University of Michigan and master's and doctoral degrees from New York University. He joined the WCU faculty in 1977. Kane is an assistant professor of management. He joined the WCU faculty in 1976, after receiving the doctoral degree from Cornell University. He also holds the bachelor's degree from Louisiana Technical University and the master's degree from the University of Southern California. Leonard, as associate professor of marketing, joined the WCU faculty in 1969. A graduate of The Ohio State University, he holds master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Georgia. App culture schedule incorrect Studies in Appalachian Culture, ASI 301, has been incorrectly listed in the class schedule for the fall semester as ASI 493. Studies in Appalachian Culture, taught by Dr. Gordon McKinney, will satisfy the requirement for the American Studies minor as the introductory course in American Studies. It may also be counted as an elective. The class will meet on MWF at 10 and cards may be picked up at the history department desk at registration. American Studies is a recently instituted minor which is an inter-disciplinary concentration on American life and thought. Two upper division ASI courses, along with four other courses in particular disciplines, such as American History, literature, or art, are requirements for the minor. It is an appropriate course of study for a large number of major programs. VISA' Warty Of FREE Parkj Kitchen & Household Gadgets 4/$r° Thermos Brand Rtfloctiv• "Even-Up" Tanning Blanket *4" 50 ft.
