  • CAP CENTER SPRING '79 GROUPS The CAP Center Counseling Office will be offering a variety of group experiences during the Spring Semester 1979. All of our groups are designed to promote self-understanding and personal growth. All are open free of charge to WCU students on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are interested in joining any of the groups, you must register by calling 7469 or stopping by the CAP Center Counseling (lower level-back entrance of Hoey). Of course, we'd be glad to answer any questions you might have about any of the groups. These groups will meet in 120, Hoey. GROUP DAY/TIME First Meeting Tuesday, February 13 6:30 p.m. Older Students Group This is a support group designed for the student who has come to college after being in a world of work. The older student faces many issues that are different than their younger classmates. Let's get together and talk. Leaders: Tom Westcott and Diane Wood Personal Growth Outing A weekend backpacking trip in the wilderness with an emphasis on self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, and the physical challenge involved. Prior outdoor or camping experience not necessary. Leaders: Jean Barrineau and Bob Stremba Cross-Cultural Communication Designed to be an introductory structured group experience emphasizing intercultural awareness and interpersonal communication. Six sessions. Leader: Willie Robinson Coping Skills for Minorities Will focus on issues facing minority students who find it First Meeting especially difficult to adjust in an environment such as Tuesday, February 6 Cullowhee, including sharing ideas of ways to adjust. 4-5 p.m. Six sessions. Leader: Willie Robinson Meeting Monday March 19, 7-8:30 p.m. Outing Friday, March 23 1 p.m. to Sunday, March 25, 5 p.m. Sign up by February 12 First Meeting Thursday, February 8 4-5 p.m. GROUP Assertive Training Group Do you say yes when you really mean no? Are_you unable to let someone know how you really feel. Assertive training helps us find the midpoint between passivity and agression in the expression of our personal rights, feelings, hopes, and fears. Eight sessions. Leader: Jean Barrineau Pre-Marriage Couples Group This group is designed for couples to learn new communication skills and explore issues and concerns of marriage. Leaders: Pat Carter, Daniel Tinsley, and Debbie Zacearine-Davidson. Personal Growth Group An introductory experience focusing on increasing one's self awareness, understanding one's own and other's feelings, and improving interpersonal relationships in a supportive group environment. Six sessions.
