The^stern Carolinian THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 1978 Vol. XLIII, No. 16 CULLOWHEE, N.C. UJ Q B-r-r- The weather returning students are cursing can create beautiful icy scenery like this shot at the Cullowhee dam on the mighty (and COLD) Tuckasegee River. More snow! NWS: 'Temperatures will be extremely low' An official winter storm watch has been released by the National Weather Service for all of the coastal sections of North Carolina for Thursday night and Friday morning. Snow is expected to spread into the mountain sections of North Carolina Thursday night and a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected over the piedmont and coastal plains. Snow accumulation is expected in the mountain sections to be about four inches by mid-morning Friday, with lesser amounts in the northern piedmont. Temperatures will be extremely low over the weekend with no warming trend visible until the middle of next week. The National Weather Service stated that "warm clothing should be worn because temperatures will be dangerously low." The mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will make road conditions "extremely hazardous" Thursday night and Friday according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Jackson County snow crews have been notified by the Accu-Weather Service of the probable chance of snow and will be out on the roads "within minutes of the first flakes," according to county officials. Local ski resorts are preparing for large numbers of visitors to their slopes during this weekend, with record numbers expected atCataloochee and Appalachian. Inside today. WCU SECT featured in this week's centerspread. Dickson and Grumman named to All-Southern Conference soccer team, see page 11. Dr. Nicholas teaches Sci-Fi while Psi Chi sells books... See pages 13 and 4. And is Anita Bryant moving to town?
