  • THURSDAY, JULY 14, 1977 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Theater Review: 'Veronica' astonishing What's the common denominator between, "To be, or not to be" and "Open this g!# d!#* door!"? Why, Ira Levin's "Veronica's Room," of course. Did I like the show? Well, yes, I think I did. Did I understand the show? Probably about as well as anyone else did who saw it. Was I entertained by the show? More like amused, apalled, grossed out and thrilled, all at the same time. What can you say about "Veronica's Room"? The cast of four University Players (or is it five?) in the Summer Theater Series production directed by Kathleen Sand- quist do a good job putting together a show which gets weirder and weirder as it progresses. The plot is already thick from the very beginning, and progresses into a "Who's doing What to Whom", with Martha Huntley, as The Girl, getting most of the "What". Jeanne Murphy and Don Yopp, as The Woman and The Man respectively, are the "Who's" doing most of the "What," but Alex Norris, as The Young Man, does his share of the '' What" too. It gets better yet. The setting is a room in a house near Boston, but after awhile, you're not real sure of that either. The show taxes the imagination and demands a long, close look at reality, that is, what is, and what appears to be. You'll wonder if you're still in Cullowhee when the curtain call goes up. Would I recommend seeing it? Definitely, if you don't know any of the cast very intimately. If you do, you'll really wonder about them for awhile after seeing it. Tickets are available for tonight, call 293-7491. Next week, "My Fat Friend", by Charles Laurence. "Gritz", a four-piece blue-grass band will perform on the UC lawn July 28 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. during a barbecue and watermelon dinner. "Gritz" is a successful group touring mainly in the Southern region. They were well-received at a previous concert here at WCU and promise an evening of enjoyable entertain- Tkrock heard round the world NOW.'f*r <t.4s &m v u /«ML.st. JUST 45if 4T* List, TVST JSt?
