Get it while* you can, lock and roll fans' -Frank Bach THE ROCKETS—DETROIT REUNION In the early Sixties, Billy Lee & the Rivieras was a teenage rock band that garnered a good reputation on the bar circuit of East Side Detroit. Producer Bob Crewe changed their name and Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels became the prototypical white rhythm-and- blues band. After a string of million-sellers ■•IK i iioiisi: ("Sock It to Me. Baby"), Ryder embarked on a disastrous solo career and the other band members drifted to different gigs. Guitarist Jim McCarty joined the Buddy Miles Express, then Cactus. Drummer John Badanjek formed his own band, and bassist John Fraga played stints with Catfish and Little Feat. Now. McCarty. Fraga. and Baaaniek are reunited as the Rockets. With keyboard master Marc Marcano, this band is the apotheosis of Detroit's cauterizing fury fueled by assembly- line alienation and the lyrical release of great rock n' roll. Detroit's most dynamic white sound to date. The Rockets have been negotiating with RCA —Ken Kelley Jim McCarty - unforgettable lead guitarist and vocalist dates back to the days of Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. After his stint with the Wheels. Jim joined the Siegel-Schwall Blues Band and then the original Buddy Miles Express. Jim then joined forces with Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice (formerly of Vanilla Fudge) to form Cactus. Cactus toured on the bill with Rod Stewart and played dates around the world including the Isle of Wight and Madison Square Gardens. In between work with various aforementioned groups. Jim found time to record some sessions with Jimi Hendrix that are in the process of being released. John (the Bee) - one of the best rock drummers int he business, John also began his professional career with Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. John worked with Alice Cooper, playing on "Welcome To My Nightmare", toured with Edgar Winter and drummed on "They Onls Come Out At Night", which included "Free Ride", and most recently recorded on Dr. John's newest album and accompanied Dr. John on an extensive tour. John's unique vocals complement has solid rock and roll compositions. Dennis Robbins - lead guitarist and vocalist began his career in the south and has played with The Drifters.
