'A Missionary And His Calling' By Ferdinant Drebert People often say-to me, "You deserve your rest; you have done your share." I never know just how to take these well-meant remarks and how to answer them. Besause that is not the way I feel about it. Christ, our Master, did not retire to take it easy after he had done hi dot did the apostles. Our Lord gave his all for us. So we have not done or given our share until we have given our He told his disciples, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." And a missionary iiiarily a disciple of Christ. When a person receives a call from the Mission Board to mi service in the foreign field, he accepts it as a call from God. The question sometimes arises—should this call be for life service? Or should it be for a period of time when he expects to be relieved or transferred to service in the homeland? Christ made it quite plain that a call to discipleship is for life. "He that layeth his hands to the plow and looketh back, is not worthy of Making plans for Friday's Senior Day are Gay Moore, Coleen Gamble, Bob Allen and Tyree Kiser, Alumni Secretary and director of the e- vent. Some 500 high schools from all parts of Western North Carolina are expecte^rto participate in a full day of activities which include guided tours, college class attendance and recreation. Why Try? Reserved Areas By Mrs. Richard Grace There has been considerable misunderstanding concerning car parking in certain reserved areas on campus. Please note the following: 1. The reserved areas at McKee Training School are free from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. each day. 2. The reserved areas on the roadway behind Joyner Building (leading to the infirmary) are free after 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. each day with the exception of the first three on the left hand side. These are reserved 24 hours a day. 3. All other reserved areas on campus are reserved 24 hours a day. These areas are reserved for faculty and personnel members who must be in their classrooms or offices by 8 a.m. or earlier, each day. The above hours will be enforced. Commuting students who move into the dormitory are required to change stickers. They may do this by reporting to the car registration secretary and receiving a new sticker at no charge. This requirement would also stand in the e- vent a dormitory student moves out of the campus area. Let me urge you to watch THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN for any (ACP)—The Collegian at Holy Names College, Spokane, Wash., carried three big stories of coming events in an issue last month— two of future important speeches and the third on the debut of the college's symphony orchestra. But the next issue reported that one speaker had to come a week early, the second sent a replacement, and the orchestra decided members weren't ready for a concert and cancelled their appearance. "Reporters take courses in tracking down facts," sighed Collegian editors. "Should they add crystal gazing to their curriculum?" Bird Presents Talk President Emeritus W. E. Bird was the guest speaker at the April 10 meeting of the Faculty English Seminar held in Mr. Bird's home. The former president presented excerpts from his forthcoming history of Western Carolina College which he hopes to complete in the fall of 1955. Catastrophe Near The date for the sale of Western Carolina College's literary magazine has not been set. The tentative date is between April 15 and May 15. Editor Gary Carden spoke highly of this years' magazine. Five hundred copies were sent to press. He wishes to express the staff thanks to everyone who submitted material. Due touthe lack of space, however, mucfi of the material could not be used. But there is no distinction made between service in foreign lands and the homeland, nor between races and colors. The fact that a man (or woman) is a missionary does not say either that he is magically immune to temptations. Some of his temptations may be different from those which confront God's servants in the homeland. But they are just as real and just as numerous. The only immunity or strength to overcome is in the assurance that you are a child of God and have committed yourself to Him. He will hold me fast as long as I hold on to Him in daily prayer and fellowship.
