CAP notes The Counseling,, Advisement, and Placement Center (CAP) wants to keep students aware of what services are being provided. The Counseling component is involved in individual and group counseling and consultation services. Diane Wood has been working closely with residence hall staff and is presently co-leading a group in interpersonal relationships with Buchanan R.A., Kathy Moore. Phil Steinbaugh and Tom Westcott are conducting a Values Clarification seminar for a church group. A Self-Awareness Group for Women is being led by Candi Williams In response to a request for a support group for women who are presently legally separated or divorced. Candi will assist in setting up such a group. If you fall into this category or know of someone who is making this difficult adjustment, contact Candi as soon as possbille. During the coming week. Butch Sanders will begin offering services at Cherokee. There will be an Open House for faculty and staff at the CAP Center on Friday, October 29 between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Remember every day is "open house" for students. Come and enjoy a night of entertainment at Koinonia House. □ The Western North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children will be at 7:30 p.m. November 4 at WCU in the UC Cherokee Room. The guest speaker ssill be Dr. Betty I . Siegel, ness dean of education at WCU. All persons interested in the education of young children are invited to attend. □ Applications for the Winter Ouarter in South America program must be submitted by November 1. Please note that it is not too late to apply. The deadline will allow one more weekend to confer with parents or guardians and lo make a final decision. Information on the program is available in the department of modern foreign languages office, 103 McKee. where application forms are lo he returned. □ The department of modern foreign languages is offering a course in conversational Cherokee al the extension center in Cherokee this year. The department is in the process of trying to integrate the Cherokee course into its regular program of instruction and ii would be helpful in making a realistic assessment of demand for such a course on eampiis if students interested in enrolling in a course in the spoken Cherokee language would communicate this tact to the department. We would like lo base the following information from potential Cherokee students: name, address, plume number, year iii school, whether you would be interested in taking the course for credit or as an auditor and whether you are a Cherokee or a resident of Cherokee. N.C. If interested, students could send this information to Bill Cook at the Department of modern foreign languages, leave a note ssith the department secretary in McKee 103 or call the department at extension 241.
