  • WCU track team goes to MT Relays Sat. THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday AprU 8, 1971 7 .-v Saturday, April 10,the Western Carolina Track Team will travel to Middle Tennessee University for the Middle Tennessee Relays. The Catamount track team will compete against about fifteen schools from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi. Among the schools competing will be Middle Tennessee University, Tennessee Tech, East Tennessee State University, Western Ken tucky University, Memphis State, Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi, Eastern Kentucky University, and Murray State University, There will be no team scoring. Concentration will be on the individual event, On Tuesday, April 13, the Western Carolina track team will travel to Tennessee Tech for a dual track meet, ■ • * % 4 * Second WCJC eager signs with Cats for next season V . ' IJW J, Western Carolina has signed its second Western Carolinas Junior College player for the WCU basketball program next season. Glymph Childress, a 6-foot- 3 1/2, i95-pounder, who played the last two seasons at North Greenville Junior College in Tigerville, S.C. He averaged 19 points per game and 10 rebounds last sea= son. Childress played his high school ball in Oak way, S.C. where he graduated in 1969. West Georgia should be an even match for the Cats as neither school provides scholarships for their tennis players. Craig Linton will again be starting as number one man for the Catamounts. Linton had an impressive 11-3 season last year and is ranked in his home sfite of Florida. The number two man for the Cats will be John Gilbert, Gilbert went 9-4 on the season last year. Bill Robinson adds new blood to the team. Robinson, a freshman, was a star at East Mecklenburg High School inClarlotte, N. C. where he turned in a 13-1 season, Tim Dates with a 0-5 season and George Pankiw with a 4=0 season will round out the Cats line-uD. Last Tuesday the Cats lost to Appalachian 9-0. The Catamounts were simply overpowered by the ASU team. Campbell *** and Scott face surgery Jim Hartbarger, Head basketbaU coach, has reported that Rick Campbell and Wilson Scott wUl undergo surgery on Apr, 18, in the Memorial Mission Hospital at AshevUle for Injuries they received during the Catamount 71 season. CampbeU, a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Denver, CoL played an outstanding role as the sixth man on the team last season. CampbeU has torn cartilage in his left knee and Scott has torn cartilage in his right knee. Scott, a future super star from Hometown, Ga. was injured in the UNC—A game here that gave the Cats the district championship. Both Campbell and Scott are expected toattend summer school and should be in top form for next year.
