  • 8 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN, October 22,1970 Western Carolian News Briefs Any student or faculty member wishing to join the Leasing Society of WCU, a Jewish Religious organization ia asked to meet in the lobby of the University Center on Thursday, October 22, at 7:45 p.m, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Schul- man, community sponsors, will meet interested persons there. Anyone of the Jewish faith is invited. The Committee for Social Change wUl hold a meeting Tuesday, October 27 at 8:30 in the Cardinal Room of the U.C. to plan an anti litter and clean-up campaign. AU interested persons are invited to attend. Janet Carroll has been appointed Undersecretary of the Student Senate, filling the vacancy left by Lynn Jarrell's appointment as Secretary. Miss Carroll is a sophomore business major from ReldsvUle, N.C. Personnel in the Registrar's Office and in the Computer Center have prepared a new copy of the faU 1970 class schedule for each enrolled student These were printed in order for students to have another oppor-= tunity to edit fall quarter class schedules. Students are requested to go by the Registrar's Office on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 21, 22, and 23 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to obtain the new copy. Individual photographs wUl be taken for the 1970-71 CATAMOUNT on November 2-11, from 8:00 until 5:00. The suggested attire for these photographs are listed in the foUowing chart BOYS Freshman: White shirts, tie Sophomore: Pastel shirt, tie Junior: Dark shirt, tie Senior: Dark coat, white shirt, tie. GIRLS Freshman: white shells Sophomore: pastel blouses Junior: dark blouses Senior: dark or black round neck sweaters. R. FOOSBALL, the German game of skill and quick thinking, has come to the University Center of WCU. A tournament for the championship is being planned for the near future, so find a German and don't miss foosball practice this week. Advance tickets for the Allman Brothers/Friends of Distinction show and dance to be held Wed= nesday, October 28 in Reid Gym will go on sale Thursday, Oct^ ober 22, at the Information Desk of the U.C. The price of the advance tickets is $2 00 per person and includes admittance to both shows. Separate tickets may be purchased at $200 for each show and dance, totaling $4.00. Two dollars will be saved by those wishing to attend both shows who purchase tickets in advance. The Kenny Rogers and The First Edition concert to be held Monday, October 26, in Reid Gym is free with ID and student act ivities card. Admission for students without a student activities card is $1.00. Tickets for outsiders are $1.50. First Edition tickets will be on sale at the door only. The University Center Board is now providing a baby sitter service in the University Center for all faculty, staff, and students who have children between the ages of 1 and 6. The ser= vice wUl be in operation from 7 to 12 weeknights and from 7 to 1 weekends. There wiU be a charge of 50t per hour per child Please notify the UCB by 6 o'clock in the evening if the service is desired. Franklin D. WUliams, field representative for Malcolm X Liberation University, Durham, N. C. and Director of Operations for Student Organization for Black Unity, Greensboro, N. C. will be on the Western Carolina University campus Sunday October 25, as a Black Students United for Liberation visiting lecturer. WUliams wUl give a public lecture on "Pan-Africanism and the Black Student" and "Education for African People" at 2:00 p.nu on Sunday October 25 in the auditorium of the School of Business BuUding. Sigma Kappa Sorority will hold their annual Pie-Throw on October 228 at 5:30 p.m, There wUl be enough pies for all students and too many pies for some Sigma Kappas. The pier throw wUl be in the University Center parking lot Everyone is invited. There will be another ,big, coffee-house, or whatever, sponsored by UCB, on Sunday night, October 25 from 8 til we get through in the Snack Bar of the University Center. Any person(s) interested in performing in the coffee-house, please contact Joe Smyth through the UCB office or in the Billiard Parlor of the UC. Auditions for the coffee-house wiU be Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Grandroom of the UC. Sites for displays wUl be drawn Monday, Oct 26, at 9:00 p.m. in the Catamount room of the University Center. AU organizations who wUl enter a display are asked to attend, as those present wUl have more of a choice in their display site. UCB wUl sponsor a dance on Friday, October 23, from 9-1 featuring a group called "Moose." The dance wUl be held in the Grandroom of the U.C. Admission is $1.00 per person. The Baptist Student Union wUl sponsor a program Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. at the Baptist Student Center, featuring Charles Taylor and John Smart, candidates for the House of Representatives for the legislature of North Carolina. These two gentlemen are residents of Transylvania county and are seeking the election to the House to represent Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania counties. The topic of the evening will be "Responsible Student Power". A11 per son s Intere sted in meeting the candidates and discussing with them issues reflating to Western Carolina and student power are encouraged to attend. The Department of Speech and Theatre Arts wiU present TWO FOR THE SEESAW by WUliam Gibson in the University Little Theatre, October 27-31, at 7:30 p.nu Poppy Revell, a senior from MonticeUo, Florida, and Vernon C. Smith, a junior from North Wilkesboro, N. C, compose the cast of the comedy-drama. Students wUl be admitted free with student LD. Cards. Reserve seats may be secured at the box office October 21-23 and 26-30. Ticket prices are : Adults $1.25, High School $.75, Child- ren $.25. The 1970 fund-raising drive of the United Fund wiU be conducted at WCU through October 31. Harry Ramsey and John Slater, co-chairmen for the University's part in the drive, have organized faculty and staff representatives who wiU circulate in their departments, giving all members a chance to contribute. David Huskins will organize a program for student contribution. Proceeds from the drive.whose total goal is $25,494, will be distributed to fifteen local civic agencies including: Jackson County Chapter of American Red Cross, Jackson County Boy and Girl Scouts, AshevUle Orthopedic Hospital, Jackson County 4-H Clubs and State of Franklin Health CouncU. AU University representatives wiU meet on Friday, October 23, to kick off the drive. A large majority of history majors have a greed to offer tutorial assistance to aU students who are in danger of failing the freshman history course, History 1500-1510. Any student in 1500 or 1510 who who feels he needs this assis= tance is urged to contact the head of the history department in Room U3. McKee„ There wiU be a meeting uf all students, faculty or community citizens interested in going to KnoxvUle to campaign for Albert Gore, candidate for U. S. Senate.
