WAT HOPKINS The Allman Brothers They were scheduled to perform at the CuUowhee Rock Festival last spring (you remember the Rock Festival?), but due to circumstances beyond their control . . . were not able to be present This time they are really coming, no kidding- and honest On Wednesday, October 28th, at 10 p.m. in Reid Gym The Allman Brothers Band wUl perform for a show and dance immediately foUowing the Friends of Distinction. Promise. The Allman Brothers mean blues. Blues means a form of expression originated by black men and women learning to survive in America. It is the birth of the "I" for them. Today, this form of music had found a home in the souls of the now generation currently experiencing the reverse situation: the death of the "I". The Allman Brothers blues are dignified and most definitely cooL They have avoided the sensationalism and histrionics often characteristic of their white co-practioners and have painted a paler shade of blue across the country. The line-up consists of Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jai Hohnny Hohanson, Dicky Betts, and Berry Oakley. Duane is one of the best rock guitarists in the field and has chosen, for the most part, the electric slide guitar, a real soundmaker, Greg AUman has dual roles qs a vocalist and organist "Watching him is quite a cultural shock experience." "He sounds of raw pain and gutsy life which his face looks like a figure from a Renaissance painting. "At the very least, the AUman Brothers Band together make the very, very best of blues played by white young people. The Allman Brothers were in Atlanta for Ihe International Rock Festival this summer, where they received Ttanding ovation s for songs such as "Whipping Post" and "Black Hearted Woman" from their first album. They also did some nice country funkey, complete with sUdhig guitar aad gospel Influenced harmonies. On October 2«th, come and dig their blues in Reid for the FaU Festival. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS
