Foster, Western Carolina University art faculty members, are on exhibit at the New Morning Gallery in Biltmore. Buchanan, who has his studio in Cullowhee, works primarily with wheel - thrown forms of a traditional nature. His exhibit includes 25 ceramic pieces. Foster is exhibiting 30 water colors. He maintains a studio in Montreat where he works with mountain scenes in water- colors and acrylics. The exhibit will be open through March 30. In connection with his exhibition, Moore will lecture on March 25 at the Unitarian Church and at the Asheville Investment Club on March 26. The exhibition will be moved to Hinds University Center on the WCU campus on April 24 where it will remain through May 5. Formerly the exhibition was at the Converse College Art Gallery in Spartanburg(S.C„). There Moore presented a lecture at the opening of the exhibit and visited with students in the art classes. The Western Carolina University Art Department has announced new hours for the art gallery, located in Belk Building on the WCU campus. In addition to being open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., the gallery also will be open on Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The additional hours are being made possible by the WCU Student Chapter of the National Art Education Association. The gallery currently is showing through March 27 art by high school students from Western North Carolina. Exhibits are changed each month. DR. JIM HAMILTON MICK JAGGER Mick Jogger's Education Was Taught Him By Jim By Sarah Johnson The latest rumor (actually not the latest) going around has it that Dr. Jim Hamilton, head of the WCU Health and Physical Education Department, taught Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones everything he knows. After exposingthis murky-affair to the light of day, however, it appears the rumor, although slightly modified, was founded in fact. In 1959, Hamilton, working with the State Department as an education specialist, was assigned to work in London for 10 days and then to travel throughout England and Ireland. While in London one of his co-workers was Joseph Jagger, a technical advisor for the Central Council of Physical Recreation. Several times during their professional association Ham- and Julia Corbett ilton was invited to the Jag- ger's home for supper. Dr. Hamilton became a good friend of Jagger and his wife Eva. The Jaggers had two sons; Michael (Mick) who was then a- bout 15 and Christopher, his . younger brother. According to Hamilton, Michael "was an excellent soccer player and fine in his school work." On the subject of Mick's musical ability, Hamilton noted that "at that time he showed no inclination or interest in anything like that - soccer and his school work were what he talked about." The Jaggers lived in "comfortable but modest circumstances," said Hamilton.
