Building and Grounds Committee announces major improvements Several major campus improvements have been announced by the Building and Grounds Committee. Some of these improvements include, an up-dated sign at the entrance to the campus, and aluminum name signs for all Clubs need to revise constitutions The Constitutional Review Committee of the Student Senate has reported that the following clubs and organizations have failed to revise their constitutions since Western Carolina attained University status. These consitutions must be updated by the end of this month or action will be taken against the organization by the Stdent Sentate. Also, a four foot by six foot display map of the campus will be erected between Hunter Library and the greenhouse. From suggestions made by the 1968 Building and Grounds Committee, names have been accepted for campus streets. The names accepted are: President's Drive, Center Drive, Young Drive, Madison Drive, Speedwell Road, Circle Drive, Joyner Drive, Engineer Drive, Buzzard Roost Road, Stadium Drive, University Drive, Camp Drive, and Roger's Road. Wooden sign posts will be used to mark the respective streets. So far, the committee has been able to renovate the pond behind StiUwell and provide better marked parking spaces between Killian and McKee. Sev- era! improvements have also been scheduled for High Rise Dorm. Full length mirrors wiU be provided for each floor, draperies have been ordered UCB sponsors dance Saturday The University Center Board wiU sponsor a dance Saturday, February 28, from 10:00 p.m, until 1:00 a.m. featuring "Ginger Thompson and the Music Odyssey." The dance will be held in the Grand Ballroom and admission is free wtth as ID. Student aid meeting held Students anticipating finan cial need are urged to attend a Student Aid Meeting in the Grand Room, University Center at 6:30 p,m. on Wednesday, March 4. PACE, Summer School, and 1970-71 Academic Year Assistance will be discussed and applications will be distributed. for the parlors, and a PBX telephone will be installed in the boy's lobby. In addition to this the yard in front of the High Rise will be relandscaped. A group of one-act studio productions will be presented by the Western Carolina University Department of Speech and Theater Arts, at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1, in the University Little Theater. The William Saroyan fantasy, "Coming Through the Rye," will be directed by Julia L. Higgenbotham, WCU senior from Lakeland, Florida. Yost, Concord; and Barbara Jo Long, Trinity, all WCU students; and several students from Camp Laboratory School In Cullowhee, Nick Searcy, sonof Mr. and Mrs. James E, Searcy; Dennis Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. WilUam C. Rogers, Jr.; Marina and Rie Rhinehart, daughters of Capt, and Mrs. Harry J, Rhinehart, David and Tim Reed, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Reed; John Clark, son of Dr. and Mrs. Louis Clark; and Macon Krause, daughter of Dr. and Mrs, Irl Krause, all of Cullowhee. "Not Enough Robe," a farce by Elaine May, is directed by Deborah A. Lewis, a sophomore from Asheville. Members of the cast are Susan Magness Whisnant of Cullowhee and Hender- sonvllle; Y. Dave Brown, Roanoke Rapids; and Mary Sue Brissie, Charlotte. "Snowangel," a drama by Lewis John Carlino, will be directed by C. Dan Smith, a sophomore from North Wilkes- boro. Dr. Victor Sapio, WCU faculty member, and Christine Montagnino of Charlotte are the performers. The directors for the productions are advanced directing students of Dr. Donald L. Loef fler, WCU assistant professor. Richard Polenek, East Point, Georgia; Joseph A. Laughter, HendersonvUle; and James Wood, set designers, are under the direction of Robert R. Pe= vitts, WCU assistant professor. Stage managers are Joe Smyth, Flat Rock; Mike Dees, Fayetteville; and Jack Walden, Jacksonville, Florida, Questions on student fees answered by Kirkpatrick Mr. James Ktrkpatriek, Business Manager for WCU, in answer to the many questions by students concerning the Student Activities Fee, gave a detailed account of where this money is used each quarter. All Western Carolina University students, with the exception of veterans, auditors, and part- time students are required to pay the twenty-six dollars student activity fee. The Student Popular Entertainment Committee and the Lecture and Concert Committee receive $3.00 and $2,00 respectively. Modern jazz quartet to appear at Western The Modern Jazz Quartet, presenting Bach-Baroque and the Blues, will appear at Western Carolina University at 8:15- p.m, Wednesday, March 4, in Hoey Auditorium. The quartet is directed by pianist John Lewis, a native of La Grange, 111., who studied music at the University of New Mexico and the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He has taught theory at the Manhattan School and under his leadership the school added to its curriculum a jazz training program. In 1957, the quartet was among the first American jazz groups to do a solo concert tour of Europe. They have since made 10 European tours, The program will include several of Lewis'compositions, including "Today," new theme of the NBC-TV "Today" Show, and also recorded by Beatle- owned Apple records. Other members of the 15- year-old quartet are Milt Jackson, vibraharp; Percy Heath, bass; and Connie Kay, drums. The program is open to WCU students without charge and to the public at a nominal fee.
