  • The Western Carolinian VOICE OF THE STUDENTS Vol. XXXV No. 11 Tuesday, November 4, 1969 Cullowhee , NC.| JOHN SAVORY Noted Pianist To Be Here Wed. The Chamber Arts Series of Western Carolina University will present John Savory, internationally known pianist, in recital Wednesday, November 5, at 8:15 p.m. in Hoey Auditorium. Savory, a native of London, became interested in the piano at a very early age. He was a pupil of several professors of piano and composition in England, including a three year period with Professor Herbert Fryer. After lecturing for some years for toe Extra-Mural Delegacy of Oxford University, Savory, deciding to devote himself entirely to toe piano, moved to Vienna where he studied with Professor Thern at the Conservatoire. He has since played in many European countries and has made five coast to coast tours of America, during which he also played for radio and television. Savory's recital at WCU will .include - works by Schubert, Beethoven, Ravel, and Mes- siaen. The program is open to students free and to toe public at a nominal charge. Buses To Birmingham Buses will be chartered to transport Western Carolina University students to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Catamounts' game againstSamfordUniversity, according to John Henning, president of the student body at WCU. The price, per person, $15.00, includes a round- trip ticket, a ticket for the football game, and a box lunch. The buses will depart Cullowhee at 4:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, and will arrive in Birming= ham around noon. Students should assemble in toe ground level University Center parking lot at 3:30 a.m., to board buses. Buses will dispart from Birmingham for Cullowhee at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are being sold by student senators and by dormitory officers. Freshmen Elections Slated For November 6 This coming Thursday, November 6, for toe third time, freshman class elections will be held. The elections, to elect one class senator and six dormitory senators have previously been postponed due to election technicalities. A total of 23 candidates have filed for the seven offices. The polls will open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Voting for class senator will be held in the lobby of Still well Building with dormitory elections being held in the respective dormitories. Candidates who have filed for Freshman Class Senator include toe following: Barbara Blankenship, Trudy Elizabeth Clubb, Walton Davis, Robin Hobby, Donnie Kelley, Linda Posey, Lee Presson, Fran Steed.Keith Townsend.and Ronnie Ware. Helder Hall candidates include: Rena Adams, Anna Stone, and Ann Wooten. Leatherwood candidates include'. Su3an Jones, Gail Parkinson, and Pat Reed. Production The Little Theatre of Cul~ lowhee will present its fall quarter production, 'Long Day's Journey Into Night" by Eugene O'Neill, directed by Dr. Loeffler, beginning Wednesday November 5, and running through Saturday, November 8. The curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $1.25 per seat. WCU students are admitted free, The tickets can be obtained at the ticket office outside the Little Theatre from 8:00 a.nu to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. anan include William Howell, Jr. and Mike Shirley. Ted Holder and Alan Warwick have filed for Robertson Dorm, All upperclassmen are eligible to vote in the freshman class senator elections Thursday. Dormitory residents will vute for their respective dormitory senators. I. D. Cards must be presented in order to vote. Henning Names Branch Officers The appointment of the five branch coordinators of the Student Senate of Western Carolina University has been announced by John Henning, president of the student body of WCU. They are as follows: UNIVERSITY SERVICES BRANCH—Carol McRae; UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS BRANCH—John Wilson; ACTIVITIES CO-ORDINATING BRANCH—Carolyn Mundhenke; IMPROVEMENT AN > DEVELOPMENT BKANCH —Jim Pope; LEGISLATIVE -EXAMINATION BRANCH— Bob E. Thomas. Each branch coordinator is directly responsible for those committees designated to his branch. This responsibility includes: channeling proposals " to the proper committees under his direction and seeing that action is taken on them; seeing that all members of committees fulfill their responsibilities as committeemen; reporting to the Senate the progress of each committee designated to his direction; giving to the Secretary of toe Senate, within the first two weeks of the month of May, a written report containing a progress report for the entire year; working in conjunction with the President and Vice-President of toe Student Body in seeing that all matters proposed by the Senate are properly and effectively presented to toe proper unit of the Co-operative Student- Faculty Government for action and implementation; and serving on the Executive Committee of toe Student Senate. *"* *Bl\_l_i JBt'. < * >_» T_B _^r^l__.
