  • Thursday, October 23,1969 WESTERN CAROLINIAN Page 7 J. C. Sisk Wins Forecast, Jungle Jim Takes Lead Fearless Forecasters The WESTERN CAROLINIAN Football Contest was decided for toe second straight week by the tie breaker. J. C. Sisk, P. O, Box 2166-Cullowhee, was declared toe winner over Larry Taylor, Reynolds Dormitory, Each missed two but Sisk predicted toe WCU-Emory& Henry score at 53 total points while Taylor went with 38. The actual score was Western by 38-24, a total of 62 points. Since Notre Dame and Southern Cal played to a 14= 14 tie, toe judges decided to delete that contest The game was not counted either correct or incorrect on any entry which dropped the total number of games to 19. Although Sisk will receive toe $5 prize, a certain lucky young lady won herself a date with Broadway Conrad Cardano. Cardano asked that toe winner not be published until Tuesday's edition, so that he would have time to prepare himself. Even though toe tie game gave each entry a greater shot at having a perfect score, toe Fearless Forecaster's Club found no new members. Jungle Jim Rowell broke a Cross-Country Western Carolina's crosscountry team dropped a close 28-29 decision to N. C. State Tuesday in Raleigh. The loss was the second of the season for toe Harriers against two victories. N. C. State's Gareth Hayes finished first in toe meet covering the five mile course in 26.20. WCU's ace Terry Helms came home a close second at 26.29. The Catamounts placed Ned Jones fourth in the meet, with Tim Gibbons finishing sixth, Jerry Greene eighth, and Mike Davis ninth. It was toe first meet for Wes= tern against an NCAA major college team and was considered a warm-up to toe meets coming up in toe next several weeks. Western Carolina will host rival Appalachian State Friday. The Mountaineers bring a perfect 4-0 mark into Friday's battle. Helms, Jones, Greene, and Gibbons are expected to be top contenders for WCU. Soccer Western Carolina will ina- gurate its new soccar program in Cullowhee Saturday hosting Tusculum College of Greenville, Tennessee at 11 a,m. on the soccar field adjacent to the baseball diamond. The soccer team will be coming off a heartbreaking 4=3 double-overtime loss to Voorhees College last Saturday. The match was lost on a penalty kick. The battle will be toe morning highlight of a busy homecoming day. Coach Charles Schrader's team will be rated a slight underdog to experienced Tusculum, but toe WCU club should have added incentive before a homecoming crowd. Rowell missed only 4 of 19 last week for 78.97a, Waters slipped on 6 for 68.47a, Jungle Jim attributed his success last week to information he claims to have received from his scouts throughout the nation. Last week Jungle saidhis scouts were disguised as goal posts. "Shucks," remarked Bwana John Evenson, who sank lower in the standings after another meager week, "toe only reason Jungles continues to win is his scouts are officials at toe games he forecasts." Bwana John miscalled 7 con ■ tests of toe 19 on his route to a losing 62.3%, The slate of games this week is very touch and should provide contestants with quite a battle.
