Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).

  • Page 4 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Saturday, Nov. 14, 1953 JUST WONDERING By PAT EWAYS After living in Madison Hall for eight weeks, a person can really gather some interesting bits of information which tend to make you wonder about its occupants. For instance: I see that HESTER MARTIN and CLIFTON ANDREWS are still seeing a lot of each other. Does he like your new haircut, Hester? If you want to know the name of someone on the hill, go to see MARY ANN FETTES. She is a regular walking "name" dictionary. GWENETH AND IMA JEAN GARLAND go home every week end. I sure do wonder what magnet draws them there so often. Could it be a boy, or should I say boys? I hear you have been riding around in a red Buick, JANET KITCHENS. I gather that FRANCES HOYLE had a terrible time at the football game with her "High School adolescent." I wonder why BARBARA MATTHEWS decided one year of school would be enough. Could it be because LUTHER SHAW is a Senior? I wonder who KEETER is knitting those sox for .... What has happened between you and TOMMY BURTON, MAXIE LYBRAND? Could it be another boy, JERRY KING for instance? There are two cute little •1HOWELLS" around here that we think would make a darling couple. How about it BETTY ANN and GORDAN? WILMA WEST, I hear that your "dear John" letter from "Moon- <boy" (JILES) has been corrected. Good luck in the future. ELIZABETH WENSIL, they say you are quite popular. How about it, OWEN ROGERS. If you want to hear a good joke, ask BARBARA PROCTOR to tell you the one about George Smith. Did you have a good time at home last week end with your "husband-to-be," DONNA JO QUEEN? We sure are going to miss you Winter Quarter. What's happened between you and DICK CARPENTER, BETTY BRAS WELL? I heard about the letter you wrote to a certain person. Have you mailed it yet? PAT MACKEY and MARGARET ALALA seem to be hitting it off just fine. LORETTA INGLE is mixed up in a triangular affair which includes PETE BRYANT, BILL GUTHRIEI, and GEORGE DON- NAHOE. My, you must have been in a big hurry to go in swimming, LEAH SUTTON. How do you like swimming in your winter coat? Well folks, I will hang my close on this line hoping to have you with me again in two weeks for a J little more WONDERINIG. — - At a tennis meet, a bored cat turned to a very interested cat and remarked, "You seem very interested in tennis." "It's not that," replied the second cat, "It's just that my old man's in the racket." Faculty Spotlight Dr. Quinn Constantz, who is a native of Canton, Missouri, comes Why We Are Thankful By Pat Eways To be thankful here at Thanksgiving time is a wonderful thing, but OH, what our students are thankful for!! If you would really like to know, read on . . . PEGGY TALLANT is thankful thanksgiving because her birthday is the following day. Happy birthday, Peggy. JIMMY HANNA is thankful because he is so good looking. Could it be because he parts 'his hair in the middle? GALE DAVIS is thankful to have his car back after it was stolen last Saturday night in Asheville. OWEN ROGERS is thankful the shrimp boats are not coming in until Thanksgiving. If you don't understand, ask ELIZABETH WINSIL to explain. DICK CARPETTER is just plainly thankful for dames in general. TOMMY COUGHLIT and BILL GUTHRIE are thankful to just be alive. WAYNE CROWELL and BUCK THOMAS are thankful because they are not in Korea. I think GRACE DAVIS is happy about the present situation too. CHARLES LUSK is thankful the hump isn't any farther away than it is. GUDGER MERRILL is thankful for his way with the women and his many other talents. GENE BENFIELD, HERBERT KIRKLEY, and AL WEILMON are just thankful to be getting out of these hills. JACK KNIGHTEN is thankful ior his little girl, BECKY ANN. HAROLD FUNDERBURK i s thankful for our first win in football. We finally made it! BOB DAY is thankful to be getting out of general psychology this quarter. BOBBY KUYKENDALL i s thankful for MARY ANN TAG- GART while TOM CORN is thankful for NANCY EAVES. DOUG FITZ thanks providence for beans—we only have a ton a month. POLLY CRISP is thankful for, the brain who sits in front of her in business math. The funniest thing LYN HAMPTON can think of to be thankful for is RAY BUCHANAN. MARY LEE COPELAND is thankful for FRANCIS SHAW. Guess what!! He is thankful that she is thankful for him. SUNNY GASTON is thankful for pipe tobacco. Poor boy, what would he do without that pipe? GEORGE DONNAHOE is thankful God made girls 'cause He made him a boy, MARGARET ALALA is thankful to have her "chemical head" turning back to normal. Now if you are interested in knowing what I'm thankful for, just consider writing an article like this, and you will understand why I'm so glad to be through. Bye for now. HOOPER MOTOR CO. HUGHES, Representative Box 131, Whittier, N. C. Reply Card In College Shop a little further east to join us at our college and commun: Being from Missouri, he received his B.S. Degree in 1939 from Culver-Stockton College in his home state. In 1948 he received his Masters Degree, and in 1950 his Doctor's Degree from the University of Missouri. Dr. Constant?, has taught 5 years in high school, 1 year in elementary school, and 6 years in college. He has coached 8 years and officiated football, basketball, and baseball. He has served 2 1-2 years with the Navy, working with the C.I.C. While in the Navy he was on an All-Star Team in Hawaii, playing against great men like Joe DiMi When he was on the staff of Man- kato State College in Minn. he was Graduate Assistant and Chairman of the Physical Education Department. « In spite of Dr. Constantz's busy schedule he still finds time to belong to various organizations. A- mong those are: American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation of North Carolina, American Association of University Professors, N.E.A., P.D.C., and the A.H.P.E.R., of which he has held a regional office. He is a member of the Riverside Pres- side Presbyterian Church, where he has served as a deacon. Now Dr. Constantz is holding the office of Secretary-Treasurer of the men's group of the Asheville Presbytery. Also, he is helping Bob Collins to organize the Presbyterian group on the campus. He attended the National Red Cross Camp at Brevard this past summer and has spoken to civic and church organizations. An interesting factor found was that several of Dr. Cantanlz's publications have been in the "Missouri Athlete", "Scholastic Coaches", and the "A.H.P.E.R. Journal". At the present time he has one pending with the A.H.P.E.R., aric. they have asked him to write another one to be published in February. Included in Dr. Constantz's thrills are singing with the Midshipman's Choir in New York, working with Dr. Harry Emerson Folsdick, and just singing in general. He still has his biggest thrill in store, and that is when he kills his first bear and deer. For hobbies Dr. Constantz likes hunting (especially squirrel hunt ing), fishing, camping, recreational sports, and he likes to work wit mechanical and electrical device: His likes for the college and com munity far exceed his dislikes. He likes the philosophy of the administration and the growth of the school; the P.E. Department's organization and future plan^ Siwert has for it, and the proposed plan; the healthy relationsnip which exists between the Health and Physical Education and Collegiate athletics; the cooperative- ness of the faculty, and the high caliber of individuals on the staff; receptiveness and surprising intelligence of the student body; climate—'good sports area, and scenery.
