  • Thanksgiving Number Everybody Back Athletics Our athletic teams are doing mor than anything else to put Wester 1 Carolina on the map and every faculty member, student and alumnus should do his part to back the team- Most students and faculty members are giving athletics splendid backing, but a few need to WAKE UP. One of the best ways to back a team is to come out to the games. Professor R. L. Madison, the founder of Western Carolina, expressed the right idea in a message to Coach Poindexter just after the Home- Coming Football Program was issued. If every faculty member felt the same toward athletics as Mr. Madison, Western Carolina would grow. Mr. Madison's message to Coacn Poindexter follows: On the Campus W.C.T.C, Nov. ii, 1933. Dear Mr. Poindexter: I wish to congratulate you upoi the attractive and highly creditable (in fact, remarkable, unique) character of your Armistice Day Football Program and booklet of information. This publication is an achievement of distinction. " Sue-1 Cordially yours, Robt. L. Madison. Page Three THE DEBATE CLUB The Debate Club has been doing active work this year. The boys have had their contest and decided who would represent the college this school year. The boys are making a drive to create an attitude toward debating on the campus which will excel that of last year. The girls are to have their try-out immediately after Thanksgiving. A large number of girls are planning to enter the contest. The question for debate in the conference this year is: "Resolved; That the President of the United States should be granted substantial power as a definite policy." Our boys and girls are planning to enter the annual contest which is to be held in Greensboro, on March 20-24, 1934. Also we are planning to meet the following colleges: Maryville, Milli- gan, Carson-Newman, Lenoir Rhyne, Elon, Catawba, High Point, Guilford, and Appalachian State. The club voted unanimously for Mr. Stillwell to remain debate coach this year. Mr. Stillwell was a faithful friend to the club last year. IT TAKES HEALTHY NERVES JH&.
