Stories of mountain folk broadcast: 2013-02-02

  • Amy’s story, “Buckeyes and Snowflakes” opens the show, telling of finding buckeyes and childhood memories of the snow. “Just One More Day” by Keith Shuler follows the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl continues her talk with Mike Potts, who owns Nancy Tut’s Christmas Shop in Dillsboro with his wife Lisa. He talks about his family life and how family life has changed since he was a child. The interview is followed by “We Gather Together” by Jo Northup and Richard Birt. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy continues her talk with Jan Davidson of the John C. Campbell Folk School. He talks about the history of the school, with emphasis on the work of John C. Campbell and his wife in establishing the school to meet the needs of local residents. “Little Black Mustache” by Mary Jane Queen follows the interview. Amy then talks about the Catch the Spirit of Appalachia scholarship program. “The Ballad of Old Blue” by the Cockman Family follows the segment. On Down Another Road, Judy and Sheila Kay Adams continue their talk with Gary Carden, who talks about the region’s imaginary animals. The interview is followed by “Old Slewfoot” by the McDowell Family, and the show ends with “Wildwood Flower” by Colin Martin.
