Ang pagnanais ng Hapon na mailigtas sa mga kuko ng digmaan ang Dulong Silangan, ay ipinagkamali ng mga Ingles at Amerikano na nangangahulugang hindi handa ito sa digmaan. Nag- alab ang damdamin ng sangbayanang Hapones laban • sa mga Anglo-Amerikano. Sa pagbubukang-liwayway ng araw na ito, ang Hapon ay nagtungo sa Hawaii at binigyan ng isang matinding dagok ang Plota Pasipiko ng mga Amerikano sa Pearl Harbor. Ang mga bombang inihulog ng ating mga Mababalasik na Agila at ang mga torpedong nagmula sa ating mga di pangkaraniwang submarino ay pinalis ang buong Plota Pasipiko. The Allies publicized that Japan is unprepared when the last supreme effort to avert the ravages of war in Far East was made. Japanese Public Opinion boiled hot against the Anglo-American attitude. On the dawn of that day when the hour to strike came, Japan's field of operation extended to Hawaii gave a smashing blow to the American Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor. Then every bomb from the Wild Eagles, every torpedo fired from the special submarines reduced the Pacific Fleet into nothing. Then followed the capture of Guam and Wake. The Japanese Navy is now "Master of the Pacific" prowling the vast south Pacific ocean. This edition of Japanese propaganda magazine, “Shin Seiki” (text in Tagalog and English), published by the Department of Information, was brought back to America by Carr and Ruth Hooper who were interned at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, Philippines from January 1942 to February 1945. Hand-written notes made by Carr refer to several photos and captions. The camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was run by the Japanese military during World War II and housed over 3,000 internees from January 1942 until February 1945.
