  • and recreational facilities in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina", and which authorizes the issuance of bonds amounting to $2,000,000 for the purpose of enabling the Commission organized thereunder to accomplish its purpose and of enabling the State to avail itself to the fullest extent of the provisions of the aforesaid Act of Congress, and which in effect conditions the issuance of said bonds upon the making of adequate financial provisions on behalf of the State of Tennessee for the acquisition of its portion of the designated area lying within* the State of Tennessee above set forth, and WHEREAS, A corporation has been organized by certain citizens of the State of Tennessee under the corporate name of "Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association", the object of said Association being to promote the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains Park, under the provisions of said Act of Congress which corporation has acquired by subscription, and by donation from the State of Tennessee and the City of Knoxville, assets amounting to about $660,000.00, and WHEREAS, it is deemed advisable that all the powers, rights, and responsibilities with reference to the establishment of the National Park provided for in the aforesaid Act of Congress insofar as the acquisition, supervision, conservation, and conveyance of lands lying in Tennessee are concerned should be vested in one body constituting a commission separate and apart from the Tennessee State Park and Forestry Commission, which body functions over the entire State. NOW, THEREFORE: SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, That there is created a Commission to be known as the "Tennessee Great Smoky Park Commission", hereinafter designated as "Park Commission", which shall be composed of seven (7) members to be appointed by the Governor, three of whom shall be the present members of the Tennessee Park and Forestry Commission, who shall hold their offices for the period of five years.
