Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).

  • ar does take work. The children are doing well appently. You probably received their Christmas card. Dicky still talks about Pop-pop and Grandmammy and Barbara and wants to know every day how long it will be before they come to see him. And he told Jane the other night that he wished they were going to have Christmas at Pop-pop’s house. So we feel pretty good about that. I do hope that when they finish at Stanf [sic] they wont be ordered to some even more distant place. That’s just about all the news I guess. We see George and Pauline and the boys quite often. Roy sees Barbara nearly every day over at the Univ. and sometimes comes home with her. He says he can study better here then in a crowded dormitory. So he and Barbara work during the e [sic] and we take them back to the Univ. in the morning. Horace is evident getting along fine down at Roosevelt High School. He is a smart young and likeable and has already been given some good spots in the student activities. I often wonder at the peculiar circumstance that every one of my numer [sic] nephews and nieces is musical, some of them markedly so. But not one my own children can sing a note or play any instrument. In fact they are not more than mildly interested in music, since Frances openly sc [sic] music it leaves me pretty much out in the cold. I still play with the mandolin group every Tuesday evening and have been singing in the choi [sic] at the church up on the corner. I have no wonderful voice but I can r [sic] pretty well, keep on the key and dont quaver more than might be expect so I am welcome. My taste in music is strictly for harmony and tuned [sic] ness. I have only a mild interest in symphonic stuff and not even tha [sic] for chamber music. Karl is our representative there I’m afraid. But anything that resembles “tun” gets my immediate attention. I dont know what sort of musical freak that makes me but I dont apologize. I like what I like and life is too short to spend time on other things. Some weeks ago the Society for the Encouragement and Improvement of Barber-shop Quartette singing in America (That’s actually its name and it has several thousand members) had their semi-annual concert in Wash ton [sic] and we went with another couple. All but Frances got a terrific k [sic out of it. There were more [?] quartettes from all over the country and how those guys could harmonize. It was pretty swell stuff. So I’m going to join in the local chapter. They meet at the Unitarian Church every Monday night. First they have ‘pick-up’ quartettes. All the ten [sic] get in one corner, all the baritones in another etc. and they choose sides. They are then given songs to sing extempraneously [sic]. The quar [sic] that is judged best gets a prize (generally music) and eventually the top quartettes of the chapter are found. It sure is a lot of fun if you like to harmonize. Barbara wants to make a last round of shopping so I’ll have to go alon [sic] We were all saying lat [sic] night how niice it would be if we could have a family Christmas once. more. So George and I are going to get to work on the idea and see if we cant work it out for next year. Now th [sic] the children are grown we ought to be able to get away if we plan far enough in advance. More about this later. With love and Merry Christmas from all the Washington contingent
