Guess I wrote about the rough road the Hayes’ have been traveling the past few years. Their boy, Gene, who had been in the Hospital three months following an auto accident, died suddenly last Sun. of Spinal menin- getis [sic]. There seems to be nothing to say. At Christmas time I wrote a family history to Stella Dodge. A fine letter came from her this a.m. She says the letter “contained so much about your children that Lawrence Dodge had asked me & which I knew he wanted to know, that I sent the letter to him.” Thought he had forgotten us; perhaps loseing [sic] his money revived his memory! “Some notes xxx” has surely been

In this letter of January 25, 1939, Laura Kephart writes her daughter-in-law, Pauline sending her a copy of the family tree Lucy made in case she is interested. Laura recounts her near death experience walking from the road to her house in a small blizzard where it was 12°F. She tells of the death of the Hayes’ son. She continues letting Pauline know she sent the family history to Stella Dodge, and mentions wocus seeds.
