In a letter to Horace Kephart on February 22, 1929, Calvin I. ■ * February 22, 1929. i 101 Custis Place, Clarendon, Va., Dr. Horace Kephart, Bryson City, N.C. Dear Mr. Kephart: I was greatly pleased to receive your letter of the 16th inst., with copy of correspondence and report from U.Sf Geographic Board regarding the naming of Mount Kephart in the Great Smoky Mountain Park. This is indeed quite an honor to you, and it will become more apparent in future years as visitors to that interesting park make it one of their objective to ascend that peak. Shall have to do it sometime myself. Some of our people at the Interstate Commerce Commission had in mind a visit to that region, and I let them read an article of yours regarding the same. The trip was not made this year, but perhaps will be sometime in the future. Under separate cover I am sending you a copy of the Menno- nite Quarterly leview of April, 1928, which contains an article of mine regarding my colonial ancestor, lev. John Kephart. You may be interested in reading it. Later I may have a reprint made, after expanding the article in some respects, have it bound and filed in various libraries. Eight now I am working for a Ph.D. at the American University in Washington, so am subordinating other matters to that object. But have in mind several writing in succeeding years which should afford me quite some credit. My present highest degree is D.C.L. If I and my youngest brother can make Who's Who (he is now a senior lieutenant in the navy, at the top of his grade or near there, and will be eligible upon attaining rear-admiral), and Leonard K. makes it, with you and your relatives and the judge, the Kephart family will be highly represented and may later hope to be judged among the outstanding families in the country in intellectual attainments. They now talk about the Edwards, the Adams, Eandolphs, and a few others. Why not about the Kepharts, now that they have a peak added to their honors? All of these matters will be of great genealogical value, and in later years I hope to get them all together in creditable form. Before having it complete, I want to have the baronial origin in Alsace worked out reasonably completely, with the coat-of-arms, etc. This is rather slow work. Am having an article on my Drake family in a near issue of the D.A.E. Magazine. Shall try to send you a copy. Maybe a year hence we can make an auto ride, as our summer vacation, down to the Smoky Mountain section. It would be interesting if Leonard and his family could go along in their machine. Are theie any places where we could camp out for a couple of weeks? Or what plans are usually followed by others coming down in machines? Best wishes from Jours sincerely,
